  • Re: Any metallurgists in the house?

Yes it would very likely flake off, nickel is almost the same thing as chrome. Nickel is the main part of chrome plating, triple chrome plating is 3 layers one each of copper (for smoothing filling flaws etc. often not used in cheap plating) then nickel (the silver color and is the main plating) then chrome ( just a quick flash it gives the nickel finish...

  • Did somebody say pipe organ music as a reference?

interesting thread! We have a few exceptional tracks that we use for Klipsch Inc.subwoofer development (hint), and one of my favorites is a Telarc recording of Michael Murray. Needless to say, quality recordings of pipe organs serve as dynamic, brutal and fantastic test tracks. But with that said, one must hear/feel an actual pipe organ in all its acoustic...

  • Why are most Klipsch subs only 10"? (newbie)

Hey, New guy here (electrical engineer). Interested in buying either a RSW-10d, XW-500d, or RW-12d. The thing that bothers me is that the cheapest of the three subwoofers listed above is the only 12-incher in the group, and based on what [little] I know about speakers, larger cones are more effective at generating low frequency sound. Why is that? Also...

  • 5 Newbie Questions: RF-series and Sound Quality

Hey, Electrical engineer and classical pianist of 17 years here (translation: I've got good ears, and you don't need to waste time patronizing me). I have about a $3000 budget for speakers. These will be mounted in a fairly small room (18x24', carpeted, with hard walls) so fidelity at medium-to-low volume is my primary concern. Launching...

  • Cleaning up an old silver face

I'm looking for a non-destruction method to clean up the lightly smudged and soiled face of my early-to-mid 70's Luxman L-390 integrated. On the plus side, all lettering and markings are engraved, not screen printed. On the minus side, the engraved bits are then filled with ink. I'm thinking a wax of some kind, non-solvent. Suggestions?

  • Re: A question about large X-over networks

My "Universal" network is NOT suitable for a Cornwall OR a Cornscala and can NOT be modified for use in either of those speakers without a major redesign. To use it in these speakers will cause frequency response imbalance and distortion or could even damage the squawker driver. Al K.
