My little self-esteem booster

Steven is the most independent kid in the world.  I mean that sincerely.  He wants help with NOTHING, until it becomes perfectly clear after 3 hours or so that he simply cannot do something by himself (favorite phrase:  "I DO IT!").

Walking down the stairs is certainly no exception.  Since the ones in my house are hardwood with a ceramic tile landing, however, I'm hesitant to let him go it alone.  Especially since he refuses to think the railing might actually help with his stability.

So yesterday morning, I took my usual place in front of Steven going down the stairs, and to my surprise, I hear him say "Mommy, I want to hold your hand."  Aww.  I gladly obliged.

Then, after a few steps, he says, "Mommy, you are soooo beautiful."

Now, I really don't care if that's something he heard from a movie, or something my daycare provider taught him, or if he actually made the connection between his birthday is coming up and how saying that could have an effect on his loot...  It just doesn't matter.

I should've done this kid thing years ago.

Amy,

I am looking forward to reading your blog, is this a new thing or did I stumble into it by accident?  When is Steven's B-Day?

Travis

Hey Travis!

I've been posting blogs for a while, but we just made it live this morning.  You're quick!

Steven will be 3 next Friday (Aug 31st).

Amy,

"I do it" will be forever added to your vocabulary of expressions. That's one of the precious gifts of children.

Tell you what, for Steven to say, "Mommy, you are sooo beautiful." That's one smart boy. It may not always keep him out of the doghouse, but he will NEVER have to stay there very long.

These seasons with Steven are unrepeatable. Glad you are taking in the time with him. It's a real gift.

That's one really smart boy.

I know what you mean about kids being wonderful.... Got home one day when our youngest daughter was 2 or 3 after a long ugly day at work, in the doghouse for something as my wife must have also had a long day (ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrlll) and Alea ever so sweetly smiled, and said love you daddy and excitedly have me a hug, improved my mood 110%

and now she's almost 13

Amy and others....they grew up before you even realize they are growing up!  The love and the hugs only become more valuable as they grow!

My heart still melts when my 28, 27 and 26 year old daughters hug me and say, "Mama I love you".  Our girls are all married now, with children of their own.

And...grandkids...what can I say that hasn't been said by many others before me.  They are truly special gifts, most certainly put here to remind us that life is very precious indeed.

Grandchildren reinforce the love of our children.  When I tell my  seven year old grandson "I love you big as the sky" and he responds "Maw-Maw I love you big as the universe"....well I can't even describe the feeling.

Amy, Steven is growing up right before your very eyes and it's obvious to all of us that you are a real special Mommy.  Most importantly Steven thinks you are a real special Mommy.  Thank you for sharing him with us the past few years.

I posted the lyrics to "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack last night in the Music thread on the forum.

The lyrics can be found by clicking on this link:

Even for you non-country fans.....this is a wonderful song.

Oh yes, I am so glad the "Blogs" can be easily accessed now!

And the time will fly!! my wife (Katrina) and I stil remember when Michael was 3 years old. He's 9 now, and that streak of independence is, according to katrina, a common trait in boys!! Michael still knows how to melt her heart whenever the ocassion requires. A little whispered, "I love you Mom", generally tends to overcome any little transgressions done during the last hour or two!! Great photo of your son in the avatar, by the way.
