One of the hazards of running outdoor ground plane measurements is the possibility of natural interference, such as rain, thunder, wind, and of course, baby racoons.

Perhaps these little guys thought the KLF-C7 being tested last night was their mommy, back from the crick with craw-dads.  I hope they weren't too disappointed.

After a rocky start to their nationwide tour, the traveling ducks are rolling along nicely now.  Here they are hiking the steep climb to Red Rocks Amphitheatre, not far from Denver, Colorado.  Being a huge fan of Colorado and mountains in general, I can say that I am profoundly envious of my fine feathered-friends about now.  I'd be willing to bet that is one fantastic venue for taking in a show.

Interesting side note:  I received a couple additional humorous photos of the duo, one where they appeared to be giving a concert to an empty theatre, and another in the arms of an incredibly good sport, who happened to be Wyoming's Secretary of State.  My decision is final:  I will be posting a photo gallery of all the extra shots I have received after their tour is complete.  Stay tuned!  

Next Stop:  California!

We're having some roof work done this week, and lucky for the marketing department, they've decided to use our side of the building for loading the materials.  We are provided with endless entertainment including this massive hoisting apparatus, which at times looks as thought it's going to come crashing through our windows.

I'm certain they know what they are doing, however, and there is no need to huddle in the center of the building.  Although the impact tremors are enough to make me want to work from home.

While innocently browsing a local downtown antique store, we stumbled onto this Pioneer PL-71 turntable.  I realize it isn't top of the line, but how else would Steven be able to listen to the album he couldn't put down?  Plus they had a mint condition copy of The Jazz Singer.  Sold!

Anyone know of good outlets for quality vinyl?

I came across this cute little art piece upstairs on my way to grab some Tootsie Rolls (the executive assistants always have the best candy), and upon reading the inscription, I noticed we were honored with the 2007 IUPUI Spirit of Philanthropy Award.  How very cool! 

In case you are not familiar with IUPUI, please feel free to take a moment or two to familiarize yourself with this top-notch urban campus.  It hardly receives the recognition it deserves, especially considering most of us refer to it, lovingly, as Ewie-Pewie.

If you've never lived in or around Indianapolis during the month of May, its probably safe to say you've never experienced anything like the insanity of the Indy 500 and the events leading up to it.  Unless you've been to Mardi Gras.

Maybe it's the arrival of spring after a long winter that causes everyone to lose their minds, or maybe it's the gas fumes.  Either way, it's a lot of fun to watch. 

I remember "back in the day," my dad used to take my brother and I to practices to hear the cars zoom by.  My mom would never allow him to take us to the actual race or even Carb Day, and we were absolutely forbidden to enter the notorious infield.  Maybe it had something to do with the nudity, drugs, alcohol, and burning of vehicles that swayed her.  She was particular like that. 

Even though they have "civilized" the infield in recent years, there is still ample opportunity to find scantily clad women who have no business being scantily clad, loud men with sunburned beer bellies and Oakley sunglasses, and people staggering around that you are certain will never remember seeing a racecar.

So, got your ticket?

Our anechoic half-space chamber is situated near its bigger sibling downstairs in the lab.  The clamps around the edges of the square hole are used to secure the the boards that hold drivers and other speakers that cannot stand on their own to the wall.  

It's funny because the first instinct of most visitors when they approach the hole is to yell "Helloooo" in there, as if they will actually receive an echo in return.  Newbies.

I can't be completely sure why I found this sack of potatoes in an engineering cubicle last Friday, but I have a feeling it had something to do with weekend fun.  I guess that's what happens when you introduce Hope transplants to a group of impressionable city-boys.

Today was National Bike to Work Day, as some of you may have already known.  Several of my co-workers participated in the 30+ mile morning ride, evident by the cubicle parking of bikes seen here.  I hold them in the highest esteem not only because of the gas they are saving, but because if I had tried it, you'd find me sprawled out on the couch in one of our listening rooms, rendered useless for at least 48 hours.

I thought some of you might like to see a few items that have recently been built in the SLA machine.  I know the material is not even remotely the same, but when I look at the parts we make in this machine, I am consistently reminded of Shrinky Dinks.  I guess because they are both baked, brittle, and can be painted to hang on the Christmas tree.

In the backroom of our engineering lab, you can find this odd-looking contraption used to magnetize items which can be magnetized.  For our purposes, and in the simplest terms, the loudspeaker magnet is placed into the coil, and a magnetic charge is then passed through it.  The unit takes days to charge up, but only seconds to do it's job, which you can tell is completed by the loud BOOM, or, if not properly inserted, by the hole left in the ceiling after it's catapulted from the coil.  Not recommended.

This drawing is hanging outside the office door of Alvin, director of sales.  His daughter Carolyn is the artist, and as you can see, the obsession with superior audio found within this company filters easily down to our children.
