Now if I could just get my hands on some Khorns...

Weekend Photo

While innocently browsing a local downtown antique store, we stumbled onto this Pioneer PL-71 turntable.  I realize it isn't top of the line, but how else would Steven be able to listen to the album he couldn't put down?  Plus they had a mint condition copy of The Jazz Singer.  Sold!

Anyone know of good outlets for quality vinyl?

A turntable in an antique store?  Now I'm feeling old...  I think of Victrolas when I think of antique music reproduction apparatus.  This is a rather attractive turntable - looks like some real wood veneer on the base - the good old days.

Yes, it is real wood, and it weighs a ton!  I probably could've gotten a brand new one for the same money, but like they say, they just don't make em like they used to!   Hooked it up last night....works fantastic!  Someone really took care of this.

And yes, makes me feel old too.  I remember my old plastic turntable that folded up into a carrying case.  Too bad all my old Disney albums melted one summer on the top shelf of my closet...

Real wood!

Weighs a ton!  (I'd think mass in a turntable would be a good thing?)

And it looks brand spankin' new!

Must be an antique ... there's some real wood there.  ( have a Dual CS-5000 with nice wood veneer base but it's relatively lightweight and very low torque belt drive, fine for playing the vinyl but not so good for cleaning with the old Discwasher.

A manual is available for download at www.vinylengine.com/.../pl-71.shtml and probably other sites as well.  (Of course at least one wants to charge 12.95.)

The Elusive Disc in Anderson IN has a lot of high quality vinyl  http://www.elusivedisc.com/.  Bought a nice HEAVY pressing of Steely Dan's Aja a few months back.  Very sturdy shipping container though I'd be leary of shipping vinyl once it starts warming up.

My latest vinyl purchases were at thrift stores, primarily the Salvation Army while on spring break in Venice FL.  Pretty clean, a bit more tics and pops than I like but very good for used lps.  Beat another guy to 'em who offered up $1 for ZZ Top Eliminator I had scored before he arrived (cheapskate, timing is everything)  (hard to beat 50 cents a disc)

Yes, Steven needs Khorns.  I need Khorns, we all need Khorns.  (Though Id' settle for some LaScalas or Cornwalls)

Have fun!

I was just gifted a pair of 1962 KHorns and a 1962 Heresy along with some MacIntosh equipment from my mom, who is now going quite deaf.  The problem is that my girlfriend hates them and would rather keep the RF/RC setup in the living room.

So now I have a pair of KHorns that are probably going to go into a 12 x 8 room as front channels to my HIII's (by conversion) I also inherited a Thorens turntable, but I have no records.  I have no room for the Mac equipment, so the KHorns will be driven by a Yamaha RX-V361 receiver...how's that for heresy ?
