Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy

One of the highlights of this year's Pilgrimage was the unexpected arrival of eight or so crate-sized boxes of vintage vinyl from Artto, a most generous forum member (thank you jamesV for delivery).  We had a blast going through the albums, pointing to ones we may have had in our younger days, or just giggling at the goofy cover art and long forgotten artists.

This could not have come at a better time for me, since my recent turntable acquisition had left me on a quest for vinyl.  Poke fun if you must, but I took home no less than five Olivia Newton-John albums, several in the Show Tune genre, a couple of '80s movie soundtracks, and the creme de la creme of campy cult classics:  Grease 2.  Yes, I admit back in the day I wanted nothing more than to be Michelle Pfeiffer, looking for a cool rider. But give me a break. I was 12.

Keith is shown here with possibly the most fascinating of the bunch, as far as artwork goes.  If you ever happen upon this classic Elton John album, I encourage you to take some time to study the...interesting...things happening on the cover.  Safe to say Dr. Freud would find it endlessly fascinating.

I had commented to Keith that I had almost grabbed that one for the cover but it seeme like it was missing a disc so I passed as I'd be disappointed that it only had half the music.  Being the way too nice of a guy he is, Keith insisted I take it and pointed out that the extra side was for extras.

Includes a fold up poster, a lyrics booklet, and booklet of photos or something like that.  May be complete for all I know.  I'm a fan of Elton John's music or at least a lot of it though I'm sure this is a must have for any fanatic.  It's mine now unless Keith asks for it back before I become too attached.

Definitely a fascinating cover and yes I'm sure many a psychiatrist or psychologist have had fun studying it.  Don't you miss the days of LP album art?  The artwork just isn't the same in CD size.

I also scored a copy of La Cage Aux Folles I might be willing to contribute to Amy's collection.... haven't listened to it yet to know if I really want to keep it.   I almost grabbed Grease 2 as the girls really like the original but thought that one may be enough?  I'm sure I skipped past a lot of really cool stuff but it takes me a long time to get around to playing new vinyl and I scored some cool discs besides this one.

Thanks Artto and James V.  And Keith.

I've been through some of my finds, lots are badly worn or just terrible recordings (classical section), but many have very minty covers and fun artwork and are worth keeping for that reason alone. I got a 1951 mono recording of Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition that is really cool. Also saved ya some soundtrack stuff Miss Amy!
