The Science of Sound

Daily Photo

Our engineering library is wall to wall full of articles, books, and papers all about speakers, electronics and acoustics, with titles ranging from Principles and Applications of Semiconductors and Circuits to Concert Halls and Opera Houses.  It is a bit strange to me since you can record everything I know about the techie side of this business into a one-page flyer with size 30 font.  The knowledge that has been accumulated on this topic--in this building alone--is mind-boggling to me.  For instance, what could possibly be in this Audio Cyclopedia that could make it thicker than a collegiate Webster's Dictionary?  Maybe I'll have to crack it open one day and see.

Is that anything like a uni-cyclopedia or a bi-cyclopedia?

I was thinking more along the lines that you're supposed to read it with one eye!

I got a copy of Sound System Engineering and the formulae are mind-boggling. Try to ignore the math and just understand the principles.
