PWK at the Controls

Daily Photo

If anyone can chime in about what is going on in this picture, or where they could possibly be, please do so.  I'm at a loss.

But oh, how I love the checkered coat.  Almost as much as the 1950s upholstery.

WOW this is one of the coolest pics posted yet.... It looks like a tape experiment with much testing going on. Where was this taken?

the pair of big tube amps in the rack are similar in size to the Baldwin amps.

oh yeh, and wherever it is, there is a grand piano in the background.

Notice the diffuser on the wall above the couch. Looks like the engineering lab in what is now the museum.

You know if they have two RTR going and those two tube amp look like tape preamps. Could this be one of PWKs stereo rtr experiments. I remember Hunter talking about this or is it too early?

Fascinating stuff.

Testing the prototype for the Lost in Space Robot?

I would suspect they are laying down audio tracks since it looks like a recording studio setup.  On the other hand they could have been developing an early version of the game "Pong".

A) PWK is rewiring a tube amp to put out 300 watts using only a Ding-Dong wrapper?

B) PWK and Brian Eno doing some Frippertronics with tape loops?

C) Checking the flux capacitor?

Interestingly enough...Several of those pieces of equipment are still stored in the lab.

It's in the recording/ listening room of the Pre-Final Hope, Ark facility.  PWK is watching the o'scope at the other gentleman sweeps the audio signal generator.  My guess is that crossover performance is being viewed -- and/or intermodulation distortion being viewed without the aid of the now available Tektronix Spectrum Analyzer.  ?Southwestern Development Center.?  Notice the same wall covering/material in a later archival photo.  I imagine that what they were trying to see was quite difficult on the test equipment of the era.  PWK had a nice Tek Spectrum Anal. when I was at Hope in early '80's.  He evaluated my speaker enclosure with it.  FULL SPEED AHEAD!
