Old is New – 70s Casting Director

You’re a casting director with a time machine. Name your quintessential 70s cast. Include (at least) a lead actor, a lead actress, two supporting roles and a cameo. For extra kicks, name what genre of film it would be.

Psychedelic SciFi Comedy Adventure:

Movie: Invasion Of The Psychedelic Kittens From Outer Space

Tagline: Femdom from other worlds

Anne Francis        Robby The Robot

Joi Lansing          Alec Guiness

Sophia Loren       Peter Sellers

Bettie Page          John Cleese

Lily St.Cyr           William Shatner

Tempest Storm    Peter Cook

Mata Hari            John Lithgow

Raquel Welch       Lon Chaney

60's movies were sometimes at a loss for who the lead actors were and all seem to be supporting actors or actress. These are my favorite movies. May I please have some money and a time machine to make this one : )

Wow, seti, seems like you had that one all planned out already!  I need to think a bit on this...

Some of my favorite actors from the 70s are Meryl Streep, Maximilian Schell, young Jodie Foster, Charlton Heston, and Timothy Bottoms.

Genre would have to be drama, I'm at a loss for a plot.  I'm envisioning German immigrants (Schell and Streep) with a young daughter (Foster), some kind of oppression involving an evil boss/landlord (Heston), and a hero (Bottoms).  Maybe.  :)

Cool topic!!

Wow, your knowledge of 70s movies clearly trumps all, but here goes.

genre: conspiracy movie (seems like it permeates lots of 70s movies). I'm thinking Bergman is an ambassador in Washington, Nicholson and Cazale are federal agents. Fonda is a journalist, Streep a love interest (former for Nicholson, present for Cazale).

Some dark comedy, lots of great, understated turmoil, a gradually disfigured reality develops through the movie, etc.

leads: Nicholson & Jane Fonda; they were never in a movie together, but I feel like it would fit; plus, she won a couple oscars, probably a bit of a forgotten career

supporting: young Meryl Streep (coming into her own) and John Cazale (he shows up in consistently great films); plus, he and Streep were engaged, and she kept him in the Deer Hunter

cameo: Ingrid Bergman (she showed up in some good stuff -- I like Autumn Sonata, and...)

(Seriously, Murder on the Orient Express has probably the best answer to this post. it was always a favorite Sunday afternoon movie of mine growing up, and I'll stand behind it. Plus, that cast! It's such a great concept, Lumet directing, and it never gets brought up for best ensembles.)

To trump all... maybe someday. Great list. I still need to see MotOE.
