To start off a series of six western films, Phil and Matt discuss Rio Bravo. The film is famously a response by John Wayne and Howard Hawks to the storyline of another classic western, High Noon. This one is largely meant to entertain and expresses its underlying ideas in that context. The conversation turns to how some aspects of the fun hold up, while others are destined to be viewed as outdated by younger audiences.
Also to celebrate the kick off of this western cycle of films, we will be holding our first contest. Win this poster if Phil and Matt choose your present day re-casting of Rio Bravo as our favorite. The characters to recast (with description) are:
- Chance (strong, established 50-something actor)
- Dude (40-something actor better known for comedy or music)
- Colorado (teen heartthrob, musician)
- Stumpy (older actor who can do a comedic turn)
- Feathers (20-something actress)
Enter the contest by posting a comment to this blog. Remember, not all comments are published immediately!
