I saw that too. It was posted yesterday - I am 100% sure it would not make it until today - it has to be sold.

Yes, I talked to the guy just now... It's gone.  He had 5 other pieces of audio gear but couldn't tell me what they were...  Surely a rare find that keeps us hoping and searching... If only it was just 1000 miles less in distance...or I guess it would have been worth to take a plane ride to pick it up.. Oh well... god lead and thanks for getting my heart pumping.

When I get a lead on a craigslist McIntosh listing, I JUMP on it because, as often as not, it's real, and real good.

    Case in point:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Avoid scams and fraud by dealing locally! Beware any deal involving Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, cashier check, money order, shipping, escrow, or any promise of transaction protection/certification/guarantee. More info

Re: Craigslist found: MC275 for $500 in Orlando, FL

Chill out, my friends. I saw this ad while searching the Orlando Craig's List when I was there a week ago for a corporate meeting. It sounded too good to be true, so I then searched the phone number on Craig's List. Up came an ad with the same number from someone who is looking to buy vintage audio equipment. How odd--I don't think anyone who is looking to buy vintage audio equipment is going to give away a MC275 at a fraction of it's value.

So the ad for the MC275 was probably one of two things:

    1. Someone doesn't like the person who has that phone number (a rival collector perhaps?) and wants to cause him some grief by posting an outrageous deal with the phone number attached so he'll have to field lots of frustrating calls.

    2. The guy deliberately posted an ad for something he doesn't have to bait and switch people for other audio stuff he wants to sell that is much less interesting.

In either case I seriously doubt the deal was real, so I did not call.

Because Craig's List ads are free and potentially anonymous, some people with nothing better to do use them for pranks and spam.

Regardless, I still love Craig's List and I have scored some great deals there. Keep searchin', folks!

You would be correct... it's #1... The guy posting the ad is in competition with the other fellow, and posts his number with the bogus ad.

    Mystery solved--thanks, Mike!

This thread got me thinking, how do people turn up things on Craig's List in areas far away from where they live? Anyone care to explain? I know you're not searching one-by-one in every individual city in the USA--at least I hope not.

How do spammers post in many states at the same time? Is there a program that places the same ad over and over? I can't even legitimately place an ad in two cities (Portland and Eugene) without running into a CL roadblock, yet spammers have ads all over the place.

That totally rocks!  Thx for the info.  I used to get so frustrated trying to search multiple areas so I setup RSS feeds for the cities that were closest to me.  Now I can search the entire South East for stuff with one click.  Very handy tip.  Thanks!

Craigslist did not like people to set up RSS feeds. Teye would do reqular checks and block your IP address if you did.
