I gotta admit fellas, I am mystified by the strategy of putting a 250W amplifier on a tweeter. I've  been doing audio for 40 years and I can't figure this one out!Indifferent

I agree.  I'm using a 500Wpc amplifier with my tweeters.

It seemed logical, since it matches the amp that's driving the woofers.  Interestingly, the tweeter amp seems to run a little warmer than the woofer amp, although "warm" in this case means barely above room temperature.

Right now I'm listening to James Taylor at about 70dB and probably using a few tenths of a watt, but the available headroom...

I HAVE (while OUT of the room I might clearly point out) had the meters on my 2102 pegged (100 watts) on my 402's.

System was up loud (obviously), I was downstairs using a pneumatic nailer so I had hearing protection on...consequently, I had the stereo up even louder so I could hear it above the noise I was creating downstairs....

Just when I thought I had heard everything.

Then a change of CD's and the new one must have been recorded 1,000 db's hotter than the first because the sound just became thunderous upstairs, even through -26db ear muffs.  Went upstairs to turn things down and saw the meters on the 2102...  not moving...  simply pegged to the right at a standstill.

I might add that I kept my hearing protection on as I went into the room as I knew from downstairs it was going to be some serious volume.

I sure felt the pelting of the drums though

I bet there is not one bug or mouse within 50' of your house,................. that has any hearing left.

I'm pretty sure Richard put those up for around $2,800.00 after Hope when he started on his quest to hear his system while running nail guns in his basementSurprise LOL

I know they sounded very sweet on Me Love's freshly Crites prepped K-Horns in the wittle room. I may be wrong but I thought that was the direction he left Hope in! Richard?

But what killed me more than that one (I'm also pretty sure Richards had been worked over by Terry DeWick?) was when my bud Seti sold his Canary SET's[:'(] In the top three 8 Watt SET's Ive ever heard and possibly some of the best tube build (WE Spec) I've ever seenYes

When JC and I went to visit Richard there was a point in the afternoon where we both actually had to leave the room.....and that hasn't happened to me in years. As I recall Richard was sitting on the sofa as if nothing was going on. It was painfully loud. The fireplace was rattling like crazy. If it wasn't fastened to the house it would have moved across the room. Trust me.....he likes it loud and his system does go very loud.....and of course it sounds great.

Not to disrespect anyone who loves the MC-30's but I never got an "OMG" moment out of them.  Yes, before someone wonders outloud, they had been redone by DeWick prior to my purchase (I verified that with him), so they were up to spec.  They were about as pristine...well, no...acutally they were probably the MOST pristine pair I've ever seen...  they were very pretty.

To tell the truth, about the only amps I've ever had an "OMG" moment with, was the SE-OTL's and frankly, that makes me wonder if I might like the sound a bit more after taking the transformer out of the equation??.  I don't want to overblow the OTL's, it still wasn't a significant OMG moment, just that they did seem to sound more natural & 'real' than the other amps.  Sadly, they only carried 4 watts and when running full signal, that wasn't enough for me.  Now that I'm biamping it's probable that 4 wpc (on the 402) would take care of 90% of my listening.

I have gone out of my way to try out in my place, various types of amps that some people simply rave over.  Differences?  yea, I guess there was some.  Were the differences worth the multiple thousands of dollars to me?  Nope.

The item that was THE most significant "OMG" moment was swapping out the speakers and yes, that part was worth the investment (although I use the word 'investment' loosely)

Once I'm back from my trip, I'm anticipating buying some OTL's again and giving them a whirl.  I sold my MC-2102 and was going to use those proceeds to buy Kudrets pCats but unfortunately, I've got some 'deals' that are slow in closing so that cash ended up going elsewhere.  Perhaps if he still has them when I'm back from my trip.....

The only thing better than listening to a system while using your nailgun is listening to a system that sounds like a nailgun. :)
