I listen to nail guns every day here in the shop.  I can get the Cornscalas up to the point I can pretty much cover up the nail gun noise.  However, the sound of my brother-in-law came in loud and clear above everything else last week when he put the nail through his hand.

Bob, I hate hearing about that & hope he's ok.  I'm curious...  were the safety features on the nailgun bypassed?  I am always a bit paranoid when I'm using things like that.  You can't give some of these things enough respect.

Yes, he is fine, just a flesh wound.  All safety features are intact on my nail gun and will stay that way.  Brother-in-law was removing a piece of plywood he had nailed down improperly.  The plywood suddenly came loose, popped up into the air and came back down running one of the 3 inch nails through his hand.  He let out one sharp expletive immediately after the nail went in and a much longer and more piercing sound as he pulled the nail back out.  Now his tetanus shot is up to date.  He had been meaning to take care of that.

Side story...

We were installing insulation in the house (we've finished most of it ourselves).  I was using one of those hammer-staplers.  Well...it would seem as though I was going to staple some insulation down but my silly finger got in the way and not only did I smash it with the hammer action, I also injected my finger with a staple that went through the fingertip (in and back out, making two holes)

The second this happened, there was the 15 seconds of no pain but I looked down at it and simply said to myself..."this is going to really REALLY hurt", followed by the pain of not only the smash but the staple (probably 3/8 inch if I recall) through the tip.

I got down from the ladder I was on and started to walk out of the room...wife was over the way saying "Richarddddddddd......  where are you going....???"

I just said I'd be back.  Got some pliers and did what had to be done.

Wasn't fun.  I feel for those who have serious accidents, this was more of an annoyance than a serious accident.

In the past, I'd see those news stories about guys with nails in their heads and wonder, how'd they do that? Then, last summer I bought a nail gun for putting in a tonload of new windows and trimouts. It was THEN that I realized how easy it would be to end up with a nail in the medula. I handle that thing like it was a loaded shotgun with a hair trigger.

I HAVE (while OUT of the room I might clearly point out) had the meters on my 2102 pegged (100 watts) on my 402's. 

System was up loud (obviously), I was downstairs using a pneumatic nailer so I had hearing protection on...consequently, I had the stereo up even louder so I could hear it above the noise I was creating downstairs....

Then a change of CD's and the new one must have been recorded 1,000 db's hotter than the first because the sound just became thunderous upstairs, even through -26db ear muffs.  Went upstairs to turn things down and saw the meters on the 2102...  not moving...  simply pegged to the right at a standstill.

I might add that I kept my hearing protection on as I went into the room as I knew from downstairs it was going to be some serious volume.

I sure felt the pelting of the drums though
