You have the 605 now, with the exception of a little more power and more HDMI inputs what else are you trying to achieve? Does your current receiver not have a specific feature that you really want?

Personally, I would enjoy the receiver you have now or ask the company you bought it from if they have a trade-in program where you pay the difference. I would also really think about what you want to improve on before clicking the "checkout" button.

He's just got the fever, the itch, the dreaded disease!  If you aren't careful, you can find yourself never being truly satisfied with what you have.  There is nothing wrong with upgrading, but to me, technology changes way to fast to stay at the top of the latest and greatest.  As several of us have suggested in one form or another, "if it ain't broke then don't try to fix it".

    more power.

Since that is the major difference then your next model you should have pre-outs on it.  That will lead into separates so you can just add an amp for the next "more power" situation.

Everything. OK! I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog... When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out... But the worst thing I ever done - I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa - and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life. - "Chunk" / The Goonies

If I understand your question right.  You would use the functions and controls of the new receiver and the power would be handle by the amp.  So you would have to pick the model that has all the bells and whistles that you want the start.

Re: Onkyo 705 vs. Onkyo 606?

well the 805 has 130 watts per channel compared to my 605 being 90 watts.

I have the RF62s and a RC62 running on it.  40 more watts wont hurt?  but I dont think it warrants another $300?

Well what I first stated is whichever receiver that you do end up getting it should have pre-outs.  So when you think you need more power then instead of getting a new receiver all you would need at that point is an amp.  In turn that would mean when you do get your next receiver that you have to look more at the future of your setup then just a the next one or two years.  To make sure that the receiver has all the inputs that you would need, bells and whistles, for the years to come.  Then again it all depends on how offend you change your setup.

If I made this more confusing for you sorry.

If the 606 has enough power for you, then I would give it the nod.

There was a batch of 805/875s that shipped with below spec capacitors which failed when they hit the top of their operating range temprature. It effected both models from all three plants. All are being fixed under warranty, but that doesn't entierly make up for the trauma of seeing the caps self destruct.

If you go 805, this is one of the few times I'd actually suggest a refurb over new.

Of course you can't go wrong by waiting for all of the x06's to be released.
