OT!! - Question about Outlook Express 6.0

I need to find a way to confirm that a client of mine receives an e-mail I sent them through OE 6.0 even though they opt not to give me a return receipt. I need to take that option away from the recipient.

Apart from going with a different e-mail program I reeeeeeally need to make this happen within OE 6.0.

    Thanks!!

No can do, chief... but basically - if you do not get a system message within 4 hours indicating it is in a retry queue, or failed delivery, then your mail server has delivered it to their mail server. Past that - you are not able to truly know what happened with the message once their server got hold of it. This includes if their anti-spam/anti-viral grabbed hold of it too.

O.k., thanks. I had a feeling it was a little too much to ask of MS.

It's not so much an MS thing as it is an SMTP thing..... it was never designed for that. The fact that Outlook and OE has "delivery verification" is a bonus feature... like say... Flash on the web. Sendmail was never designed with verification in mind, aside from one server handing it off to the other.

I understand the points but I'm just trying to keep my "clients" from not paying for a product that was custom made for them by proving they did get it instead of just claiming they didn't and ruining my business.

I don't know why people are still putting up with Outlook's problems and vulnerabilities when they could use Thunderbird for free.

It might...it's free...so try it and see! I use T-bird as a front end for AOL mail and it has solved my frustrations with that app. I use Outlook at work and it's a pain. My IT folks spend a lot of time making it work and fending off attacks, malware, etc.

I seriously thought about doing that but I don't want to tick them off that easily. The kind of people these clients are have HUGE egos.

Re: OT!! - Question about Outlook Express 6.0

What if you sent the key right away, but accidently Embarrassed  mistyped it.  When they reply to say it doesn't work, you can appologize all over the place and give them the correct one.

The only other sure fire option is hand delivery.

    Good Luck.

Re: OT!! - Question about Outlook Express 6.0

    Thanks Jim,

I found an FTP site that gives me the date and time someone downloads the file. My only problem is that if I/we mispell the e-mail address that it's going to it won't give me a bounce-back notice telling me so. Entering all these names and addresses into the FTP site's address book would be something short of a waste of time because there are literally thousands on people I'll be sending things to, and they just from company to company all the time.

    I'll figure something out......
