Big speakers (RF-83) for a small room

    Hi everybody,

I was planning to buy RF-63 speakers but the only Klipsch dealer in Lithuania doesn't have those. So I have only one option left – get the RF-83s. The problem is I'm afraid they might be too big for my room which is only 20 squere meters (215 square feet). Has anybody tried the RF-83s in a room sized similar to mine? Do they sound normal?

    Tomas.

You're gonna love 'em. Big Smile

Chances are you'll have a larger room in the future anyway. If they were Heritage speakers........I'd say downsize. It is overkill for a room that size but I think you'll definitely enjoy them.Yes

    Welcome to the family,

I would also say go for it.  We just love to spend other peoples money....  Big Smile  One person on here has the RF-83's in his dorm room and it is about that size.

I hope you stay around and post what you end up with.

    James

Everything. OK! I'll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max's toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog... When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out... But the worst thing I ever done - I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa - and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life. - "Chunk" / The Goonies

Thanks for your input! That's what my dealer says. They say, the bass is extremely well controlled so there wouldn't be any unwanted effects. For me it is very hard to believe, RF-83s are massive, they will excite too much air in a small space. Isn't that so?

Right now I have my RF-83's in a 12x12 room and I'm loving them =)  I normally have them in larger spaces - but I'm between moves for the next 2 months =D

I have the old RF-7's in a smallish living room and sometimes people comment about their size, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

Confused SWL, why do you need so many of them? Maybe using as stands for flowerpots? Big Smile

The dynamics of horns at low levels make them ideal for a small room.  At louder levels, they should have a bigger room but with room treatments, you can compensate for a small room.

    The room pictured is 14x13x9'7"

McIntosh MC7270 amp C2200 preamp, Klipschorns, Belles, Cornwalls, Heresies, Heart CD6000, VPI Scout, Oppo 980, Stereo-Link USBDAC, DBX-3BX, Kimber Hero IC &8TC speaker cable, Cornwall Vault

don't listen to that euro-talk.  The 83's will do just fine, plus give you flexibility for the future.

Massive?  Have you ever seen a pair of Khorns or Jubilees?  A number of people have them in fairly small rooms and seem very happy with them.
