LS placement makes a dramatic difference.(I Think)

When I got my La Scala’s I could not place them in the corners due to furniture (wife) issues. This week-end I finally after months of negotiations, got the OK from the wife to re-arrange the space. OMG, I know this is not a mod, but it is definitely an upgrade from my previous setup. The Bass is now smoother, fuller and more pronounced, the separation is also very much improved. I have them set to about a 30 degree toe in; furniture issues again prevent a 45 degree placement. The placement has done for the low end what the 511’s did for the top end. It’s like having a new set of speakers. I’m not sure even if I am going to hook the sub back up.

Inpatient as I am I could not wait for the final setup, I jury-rigged it so I could get a preview of the sound. I am still planning on adding in my new electronic crossover in a tri-amp configuration and hopefully adding the 902’s , mids are still  too bright. (Dennis (djk) is the deal still on?).

I also have to paint and re-carpet the entire room, one of the wife’s conditions.

….so all of you LS’s owners out there who don’t think your LS is producing enough bass, if you haven’t already, try them in the corners!

Professor Thump told me to take a Custom 3 and stick it in my ear. I did...and it sounded great!!!

The bass on mine actually improved when I moved them out of the corners. Imaging also improved. That's why you need to try different things in your own room (I'm talking speaker placement... Confused ) Everyone's room is different.

I think you're exactly correct no room is the same or do we listen with the same ears, except at the high-end HIFI store where it always seemed to sound perfect until you got it home. My room size is 20'L x 16'W x 8'H and the seating arrangements are about 5' in. I also think where you are actually seated in the room makes a big difference as well. I think part of the difference I could be hearing is that I am now 15' away from the speakers instead of 10.'  Terry also reminded me that I'll need to listen for more than a day to truly evaluate the sound. Some of what I am hearing could also just be in my mind, because I want to hear a difference, entirely possible and debatable. Nevertheless it sounds good now I'll let you know what think in a couple more days.
