My home was recently struck by lightning which damaged my Sony DVP ES9000 SACD/CD/DVD player[:'(] My insurance company has offered a Phillips BDP7200/37 as a replacement. they feel the upgrade to blue ray makes this acceptable. My audio guys have stated that the Phillips is a middle of the road no frills blue ray player and is not a replacement for the Sony. they believe the construction of the Sony and its superior cd playback capabilities or not being considered. The replacement they have suggested is the new Sony ES BDP-S2000ES blue ray player. Just looking to gather more information from you guys on the forum. Do you feel as if the Phillips unit is a direct replacement for the Sony? If so why? If not why? what would you suggest would be a fair replacement? I own about 30 SACD and would like a unit that does offer those capabilities.

The Sony S2000ES won't play SACD. The unit you want is the Sony 9100ES, which is the player that replaced the 9000ES. It plays SACD, most of the other CD formats, and has an excellent picture with standard DVD. It also sports an HMDI output and upscales to 720p and 1080i. If your insurance won't go for that, see if they'll cut you a check for a used one -- I have a mint 9100ES over here that you can have for $500.00. I'll also throw in the five or six SACDs that I have.

Sorry to hear of the Electrical problems.............IF the Sony player was the only Electrical Item affected, and to keep your Insurance rates "Normal", I would just withdraw the Claim and buy the Sony 9100ES Model suggested...............Good Price too...............

You can file the claim, but trust me, your rates are gonna go up.

Klipsh LaScala's, Heresey's, 2 KSW15 subs and KT-LCR center channel all fine!!! So it's not all that bad.

Anyone know of a replacement for the DBX 3BX...I  would love to find a 5BX

So you don't get into a contest with your Agent, may I sugguest that you accept there offer of the Phillips, then sell it on Ebay .  Then go ahead and buy the Sony that was offered..............best of all worlds.............
