FS: Excellent Forte 1's OO w/Munson x-overs and Crites Titanium Diaphragms: SOLD

Excellent condition original Fortes with Chris Munson cross-overs and Bob Crites tweeter diaghragms installed.  Cabinets are beautiful oiled oak and these speakers sound wonderful.  There is a mark on the side of one cabinet. All edges are sharp.  Please see pictures.  Original crossovers are still in the cabinet and the original phenolic tweeter diaghragms are also included.  $695 firm. No shipping.  I don't want to risk any damage to these speakers.  I'm located in Delaware 10 minutes from I-95 and convenient to D.C., Baltimore, south Jersey and Philadelphia.  Lots of pictures following.  Thanks for looking.

If I had noticed this post a week ago they would be mine already.  I just bought a pair of Cornwalls instead, picked up just south of Wilmington.  I actually wanted a pair of Fortes since I've owned Cornwalls my entire adult life.  If your post had read "for sale" I probably would have noticed.

Good luck.  If anyone is reading this and wants a great deal on a pair of '83 walnut cornwalls with cane grills and DeanG crossovers, we could still possibly make this work.  Bad time of year to sell speakers though :(

Dean G does CW networks? hmmmmm.

Yes Gary, Forte's would be fantastic in your new digs. They take up less acreage than CW's (unless you include the requisite back space). I really love my forte II's in my home office 14x14. Cornwalls would appear monstrous in that room. (not that I'm against mostrous speakers).

Not sure Dean still does the Cornwall "Super B" networks but they were a definite improvement.  Both my Zebrawoods and this pair I just bought from Scott have them.

BTW - I originally bought these '83 CWO's from Dave Potter (DP1954) about 4 years ago.  When I got my free Khorns, they went to Scott.  Now they're mine again.  They have a couple very small veneer chips and it looks like about 400 coats of BLO were applied but all-in-all they're in pretty good shape and a light sanding should do wonders.  They sound wonderful though.

Anyone ever figure out how to clean can grills?

Common sense got the better of me guys so I think I'm going to hang on the the Corns for the time being.  Like I said, if it was a week ago and I hadn't already made that trip up I95 to Wilmington, it would be a different story.  Rich offered to bring his Fortes to my new place when I have everyone over this fall so we can do some comparisons.  In the meantime, I'll just have to suffer with those nasty old Cornwalls ;)

I sent PMs/emails back to everyone.  Thanks for asking.

Dust can be vacuumed with very light fluffy brush to help with debris removal. I don't know of any way to bring back the color, are they yellowed in spots or evenly yellowed?

    Michael,

They've just darkened over the years.  No debris, just an even yellowing.  Someone once mentioned shaving cream but e-gads, can't imagine that would work.  I suppose I should just count my blessings that they yellowed evenly.

I'm actually looking forward to sanding these down.  I can see the bottoms as they lay in the back of my van and they're just beautiful.  I think Dave went a little nuts with the BLO and there are globs of dried, sticky oil all over these.  They have a real nice matching grain pattern with quite a few knots.

Once you hear my Forte IIs you will *ALL* be dumping your CWs. Even those pretty z-wood ones.Wink The only thing better sounding then a pair of Forte IIs is 5 or 7. And mine still have the original networks. We need Popbumper to send us out a set of his networks so we can do some "market research" for the big get together.

Re: Excellent Forte 1's OO w/Munson x-overs and Crites Titanium Diaphragms

Dave has agreed (assuming his schedule allows) to bring along his OO Pop-Bumpered Forte 1s to my house in DE when you come with your IIs.  We'll then be able to compare my Cornwall 1s w/Dean's "Super B" networks, Dave's Forte 1s with the Pop-Bumper K-Stacks and Rich's stock Forte IIs.  I have a 2-story great room with a 16' wall that should be a great place to set up.  The soundstage should be HUGE.

Let's begin to think about which weekend in late Sept/early Oct will work for all of us.  Right now my schedule is wide open.  Maybe Sept 27-28?  Any thoughts?
