    Audio clipping problems

I am having issues with my new setup, the sound skeeps getting clipped.

    I have Klipsch RF10's, two front, two rear; Klipsch center channel; Klipsch RPW10 subwoofer;

all are running through a new Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver.

I am using HDMI cables for connections from PS3, XBox 360 and Satellite PVR into the receiver and using HDMI from receiver to Samsung LCD TV.

The problem is "audio clipping". The audio signal drops regularly every few minutes and no sound is heard for about 2 seconds.

This seems to occur on PVR recorded movies, HD recorded shows, HD live shows but not standard broadcasts.

I have double checked the wiring, to be sure that "positive" on one end runs to "positive" on the other end, speakers to receiver.

The receiver (Onkyo TX-SR705) setup has me a bit confused in that the speaker setup allows for 4 ohms or 6 ohms but the speakers are rated for 8 ohms.

Could this be what is causing the audio clipping?

Is there possibly another setting I may have wrong with the receiver?

I have placed the receiver on the top of an audio stand and there is more than 6 inches clearance on all sides (not the botton, LOL) so I don't think this could be a heat related issue.

Any suggestions befor I return this receiver and/or the speakers?

    Thanks!

I don't believe that's clipping, but I would take back the Oinkyo, and try something else, never heard of clipping quite described that way.

    Re: Audio clipping problems

    Hi,

The sound gets chopped when I am watching a movie/Tv show I've pre-recorded on my PVR, and also when I am watching live Tv in HD.

The sound just drops for about two seconds, maybe every 10 to 20 minutes, and if I skip back the PVR to replay the last segment where the dropped sound was, then I can hear it, so it's not the PVR.

I have narrowed it down to the receiver, not the speakers, but am comfounded to the cause.

Any suggestions of another comparable receiver that I should get instead of the Onkyo Tx-SR705 I now have?

Returning it might be my only solution. I don't want to have to deal with a repair and be without a receiver for the next few months.

Maybe just "audio drops" or "cutting out"?

At any rate, the sound stops for about two seconds...

It's an awful way to watch TV.

If you take the receiver back, what choices do you have at that store ? .... Cutting out fits better, sounds like something wrong in the receivers circuit, but I really don't know ..................

Sounds like you have a problem with your satellite receiver audio output. I would contact your provider and get them to help troubleshoot.

I've gone the satellite troubleshotting route, but because the sound trouble does not include when I replay a time period when the sound does drop off, I think that it is not the satellite cable box (Bell Expressvu in Canada.

If the sound cuts out, for the regular 2 second period, and I right away rewind to before that instance, and play, again, the sound is normal.

Onkyo has had a sound issue with Dolby Labs on other models of their receivers and this may be the same type of thing... but it sure is annoying right now. Can't enjoy any movies or HD TV at all.

And the issue pops up after the TV has been on for about an hour, it doesn't happen right away.

    Re: Audio clipping problems

Bell Expressvu- is this the MFG of the box or the satellite company? I used to have a similar problem when I had a Motorolla 6412 cable box. It was a known problem with those boxes. The cable company exchanged it for a Motorolla 6416 and I have not noticed any audio drop outs. I would bet it is your satellite box.

Have you checked to see if your Onkyo has the latest firmware and DSP updates?  If it doesn't I would say that very well could fix your problem.

Disconnect the satellite box and hook something else up into that input, IE dvd player etc... and see if you have any issues. I still think it is a problem with the audio output from your Sat receiver.

    Re: Audio clipping problems

For what it's worth, I have a Dish Network vip 622 sat box. They spool out software updates frequently. Occasionally, an update version causes random 2 or 3 second audio dropouts & they scramble to get a new version out.
