    Cornwall I Speakers Wanted <Found and Purchased>

As you can tell from the "active member" date, I am new to this forum.  I have owned 2 pairs of Heresy I speakers over the years.  A moving company "lost" a pair in 1985, but I was able to get my second, and current pair.  After all these years, I have decided to upgrade to Cornwalls, but prefer the original series, made of wood.

I would prefer not to pay for shipping, but living in Washington state, that appears to be a problem.  Looks like most of the ones I have found here in the forum are on the east coast, or close to it.

I would be willing to pay shipping, but if anyone out there is in the northwest, or knows someone who is, and has a vintage set of Cornwalls for sale, please reply to this thread, or my email.  I do not check my emails, or this forum, every day, so I hope I do not miss any.  Thanks.

The Cornwall is a step up from the Heresy I. A big one. You'll enjoy it.

They show up out there on the left coast, too.

Bide your time and search for original, sequential numbered speakers.

They've only made them since 1959 or something like that... The older, the better, I'm told.

Who's currently got the famous Cornwall shipping "vault"? Wsquare may like to use it if he locates a pair on the right side of the big river.

There was a pair in Portland, OR that just sold on eBay, but the seller would never respond to my emails.  He listed the appearance as fair/good, and they sold for $900/pair.  The good thing about wood is that they can be refinished, serious defects exempted.

You may have noticed the single K-Horn that sold for $700 in this area on ebay a couple of weeks ago.  No speakers/drivers or crossover.  Grill cloth was worn out.  But the enclosure I believe had a S/N of 52.  Estimated to have been built (probably by Paul K himself) in 1947.

So, I may bide my time, or I may bite a big bullet on shipping.  Wait and see.

BTW, does Klipsch still make a riser for the Cornwalls?

    Thanks.

I really prefer the Cornwall 1 speakers,  There is a pair in Fresno for salefor 850.  It is difficult for me to tell from the pics, but you, or someone else may be a better judge: http://fresno.craigslist.org/ele/797238983.html.

There is also a pair on Seattle Craigslist, but the only contact, a telephone number, does not work.

    Wsquare,

If you are asking if those are Cornwall I, yes they are here is a little information about the Cornwall I. http://www.klipsch.com/products/discontinued/details/cornwall.aspx  So as you can see that the Cornwall I was built from '59 to '85, but then you get into a different version of the Cornwall I also during that time.  It is the vertical Cornwall which I believe that was called the Cornwall II, it was produced during those same years.  I am sure that others might see this and be able to help out with that part of the history lesson.

      Good luck on your search.

    Re: Cornwall I Speakers Wanted

Thanks, James.  The other knowledge I have is someone posted the information that allowed a person to determine the age of a Klipsch speaker by reviewing the S/N.  I cut & pasted that information in a Word file for later use.

As for those speakers in Fresno, there were not many outside pics to determine the condition.  I also have to question why they are still around almost a month later.  Possible just nobody has an interest, or knows about them at thist time.  In the meantime, I want to find more about the ones in Seattle.  Thanks again.

    Re: Cornwall I Speakers Wanted

    Greetings!

This is Bill in Salem, Oregon, the new owner of the Cornwalls you speak of that sold for $900.00 in Portland, Or. This is a pair of Cornwalls that are in what I would call above average condition...considering their age and size, I was pleasantly surprised to find them in better condition than I thought, based on their description in the ebay auction page. The walnut cabs have a few very small dings and light scratches, grill cloth is intact without snags or tears, backs are in good shape with both ID tags intact and readable, risers are in good shape, and, most importantly, all drivers are in excellent condition and sound wonderful!

This culminates a 2 year search for me trying to find a pair of Cornwalls. Most on ebay or agon are sold by people refusing to ship them, so paying a little more for them to find them locally was worth it for me..

I will be using these in my "low power" system, driving them with my modded Dynaco ST-35, at 17.5 watts. I am driving my Klipschorns with a Dynaco ST-70 I modded recently....my "Hi-power" system, at 35 watts.

Time to crank them up and have some fun!

    Bill,

I noticed some Cornwalls for sale in Salem.  I have sent an email and called both numbers, but have not received a response, yet.  If they are still available, could you stop by and look at them for me?  Thanks.   http://salem.craigslist.org/ele/833087193.html

Wsquare: during your search for a pair, keep this handy for serials, finishes, etc.

    Re: Cornwall I Speakers Wanted

Hopefully this may be an out-of-date thread.  I am leaving in a few minutes for a 2.5 hr drive to Spokane to pick up a pair of Cornwalls.  They are raw birch, consecutive serial numbers, made in 1983, and have the base/riser on each speaker.  They have been finished and stained.  There are no water stain, etc., but I think there may be a few knicks, which are normal for moving speakers.  They were on craigslist for $580.  I figure that's a fair price if they are in great condition.

Does the "found and purchased" indicate you have located the Cornwalls?

I am in the Seattle area, have a pair of what are probably early 80s Cornwalls, walnut oil finish.  I bought them in about '91 at a house/yard sale from a couple who were selling all of their belongings to go travelling.  (To give you an idea of the kind of sale, the Cornwalls were next to the Waterford crystal.)  They are in great shape and sound great.  Our new (to us) house is too small.
