    iGroove doesn't charge iPod Nano

I just purchased an iGroove and it doesn't charge my iPod Nano (8G, 4th generation). I get a message on the screen saying "Charging is not supported with this accessory" when I power it on (using the remote). It's solidly plugged into the connector so why doesn't it charge. It almost defeats the purpose of having these speakers, if it doesn't charge. The manual says it does so either my unit is bad or the manual is wrong.

At first I didn't use the extra docking piece that comes with it for the Nano but even installing it didn't fix the problem.

Also, it plays my audiobooks which I don't want it to do. It randomly goes through the music files, audio books and podcasts instead of sticking with the music only. This is even more irritating than the lack of charging.

Did I just waste $$ on something that doesn't do what it's advertised to do?

Answer: I did a search for this error message and found many others in my situation. Apparently Apple has changed the charging mechanism and has supposedly told these other manufacturers to change their adapters but many haven't. This is true for iPhone too but the 1st/2nd gen iPods are fine. Great, now I have a useless set of speakers, thanks a lot Klipsch - that's the last I'll be buying from you.

    Thanks, Deborah

     Deb,

Welcome.   You can email klipsch support, but if memory serves me, Apple changed the electronics on the charging and the IGroove won't work with the newer electronic configuration................

Hopefully you kept the receipt, in case you need to return the Unit.

Klipsch is working on a Solution to this upsetting problem..............

    Good Luck.

Excellent. Thank you for the quick and helpful reply. I bought it a few weeks ago from Amazon and they're not that great with returns. I no longer have the box so I'm out of luck. Technically the unit works just not with the newer generation of iPods. I'll call Klipsch tomorrow and ask if they're planning on offering an adaptor. I like the unit, just very disappointed it didn't work as stated.

My understanding is Apple changed the voltage required to charge some of the new iPods. My wife and I have the 120 GB iPod classics which are not supposed to be rechargeable on the iGroove SXT Classic. However it does charge them. It does not charge her iPod Touch though.

Correct.  Apple does not allow "Firewire" (8-30V) charging on the new iPods/iPhones, only "USB" (5V) charging.

The changes needed on the SXT to charge the newly released iPods/iPhones have already been made.

    I would call customer service.

So if I have the original iGroove, and an iPod Touch, there is no software or update or adapter or other solution to get this working, aside from buying a new speaker?

I have seen a few adapters that are available.

Can you tell me where to find an adapter?  I called customer service and they were no help at all.  Pretty much told me too bad, which is upsetting as I paid $150 for this product.

Re: iGroove doesn't charge iPod Nano

I ended up returning my iPod speaker dock (purchased at Amazon) and buying one from Klipsch which does charge the iPod. I am lucky I got a refund given it was 4 months after I purchased it. The Klipsch support folks were very helpful and understanding when I talked to them. They did tell me of two adapters but they can't claim they will work or offer any support for them since they aren't Klipsch products . The real fault is the manufacturer of these players since they have not been honest in updating their documentation that their adapters do not charge the newer iPods. It's clear they want to get rid of excess inventory and then come out with another model.

     The two they mentioned are:

Has anybody already found a converter that suits well without a big high ugly piece of plastic?? I wanted to buy the Scosche Passport Home Dock (that's not the same as Deborah mentioned) that fits like a glove on a bose sounddock but not on an igroove :-( (hopefully a company will produce something simular)
