    Subwoofer for Klipsch La Scalas

     Hey Crew:

I have Klipsch La Scala speakers and I'm trying to decide between Sunfire True Mark II, and Zu Mini Method subwoofers.  Both of these are on the used market here in Canada for $700 -800.  Can anyone comment on either of these?  I have a vintage Marantz receiver (2285b), but plan to graduate into tube gear one day.

    Thanks,

    Janet

Hi Janet, firstly welcome.. you would be best to post in the ‘Subwoofer’ or ‘Home Theatre’ section on this site, you will get more attention there.  Good luck.  I am sure someone will come on board and be able to advise.

The Sunfire sub "might" work nice.

These are terrible terms I will use here, but you will get the gist of it...

You need something fast and dynamic to augment  la scala.. Not say 4  18" overpowered Boom Boxers.Used properly, the La Scala with the Sunfire sub should be great!

Make sure the used Sunfire does not rattle or have bad edges on the cones, box edges, or coming apart rattling... Or the knobs crackle when turned..  A lot of people over use them, and blow the speaker itself..  It does go down to 35 htz... not to say 20 htz  as most subs strive for today...  Still not bad almost right on making a La Scala down to K horn Levels...33 htz....  But not a real earth shattering sub per say for HT, to 20 htz desired.

They sometimes can hum as well..Look at the bad volume knobs..  you wanted the good, bad, and ugly info right?

I wish u well. I know nothing about the other sub you listed, sorry.

I don't think either of those subwoofers is going to keep up with the dynamics of the lascala.

Hi man , I  know for sure that DrWho is right by saying that the Sunfire can"t keep up with the dynamics of the La Scala's   only  Klipsch subwoofers

do have the speed of the Heritage speakers  , I use a  ksw12 klipsch sub myself and  it is great for use with heritagespeakers , they have the same dry and speedy  low  you get from a Heritage speaker .

I would say buy a  12 or 15 inch sub fron Klipsch ..

    best regards,

    Fred.

I've been using a Paradigm PW-2100 with my La Scalas (now JubScalas) for three years and they sound great together.  The 500-watt amp powers the 10-inch driver with all the speed it needs to keep up with the horns, making for a seamless match.

Retail on that sub was $900 in Canada, but I was able to find one less than a year old for only $450 plus tax.

Since posting in April, did you get a sub yet?
