I need help understanding whether I should stay with HDMI from puter to Samsung TV HDMI , then RCA out to Analog Denon amp, or to go to a seperate DAC for better sound. I'm using Itunes on puter and music is all lossless. I,m using decent connects from TV to Amp. Will I gain much by going that way or just focus on what I have and tighten them up.

I don't think TV manufacturers go to great lengths to put even a halfway decent DAC in their TVs.  Any other way to connect things would probably sound quite a bit better.

I don't personally have any experience with an external DAC but I know that Emotiva makes one that has been well-regarded.  Cambridge Audio also makes one called a DACMagic.  They pop up now and then for sale on audiogon.com and eBay.

Just give up on your Denon and get a Receiver with digital inputs. Do you even have remote volume control?

My view point on DACs is they are great, but you pay too much for their capability. If I had to, I'd buy the HRT Streamer.

juan mo ting ( one more thing) I have a LG TV and it's internal DAC SUUUUUUUUUUCKS! TVs place no priority in sound when designed. It's hard to give up on the Denon, it's about all I got left after 2 marriages.  Anyhow I use the mouse as my remote, set the amp to a respectable volume and adjust accordingly, be it music , cable tv, or blu-ray.

All TV's aren't the same.. I run  the laptop to the RCA TV  thru the HDMI .   And the tv to amp to khorns.  It works well for me.  The tv has remote control,   also the tv has an equalizer and a 3d SRS TruSurround XT  option that works well for me.

Thanks for the advice , and that's pretty much what I've got. So the long and short of it, possible not missing much, and then again that never ending quest for perfection, that most people do not understand. I'm setting up to rebuild the KG4s (crites xovers and ti diaphrams). By then I'll have researched enough about DAC's to write a book. Thanks for all the help guys.

My biases aside. A TV can function as the center of one's Audio Video Universe. They do have some decent 2 Channel features, remote volume control, and auto input switching. You don't have to invest in any other capability. You have plenty of capability right now.

You're right Bill. Just finished listening to Dave Mathews, Santana, and Herbie Hancock. Can't imagine that it will get any better, as we lose more than half our hearing by the time we get finished building our man caves.
