    IFI amp dead

    Hello,

I think the amp on my IFI is dead. No sound comes out of the speakers and there's just muffled sound coming out of the subwoofer (low distant sound) probably a pretty good indication that the amp is dead. I was given the IFI's by a relative and think they are still under warranty. I was told to call Tech Support and I did today. They said since I didn't have a receit handy (proof of purchase), my warranty was null. I can understand that, but I asked them how much it would be if I paid for the repairs. They took down my name & Number and said they would give me a call back. I haven't gotten a call back yet, though I'm wondering if they forgot about me already. I guess this issue doesn't come up too often. Anyone else have some input on RMAing IFI's?

Already have asked. My brother said he paid for the system in cash & doesn't have the receipt anymore. Keep in mind this was about 8-9 months ago, and I doubt it's going to show up before the warranty expires. I think my only option is to pay for a repair at this point

Would be nice if this was only a iPod output problem not your speakers.  What the source of your music system...iPod, computer?

Pretty sure it is the system. I've tried hooking the ipod to the dock, hooking the ipod to a an audio cable to the back of the dock, no go. I'm pretty sure the amp is the problem at this point

If you can hear audio on your headphones from iPod undocked, try plugging that output to your line-in on the back of the sub-woofer.  The line-in was meant for a computer but would still produce audio.

I've just gotten the pricing specifics from Klipsch. They said I can order a new amp from them for $105. They have no pricing specifics on reparing IFI's themselves, so I guess I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.  I'm guessing I would be responsible for this installation if they shipped me the amp. How hard would it be to install a new amp inside the ifi?

    Re: IFI amp dead

you can buy a new system for $199 at costco (if you can find one). it might be worth buying a new system for $100 more which is warranteed for a year.  Not to mention, If the amp fails, how long is it warranteed for, most manufacturers probably give you 30-90 days on parts.  Lastly, i'd be willing to buy your docking station and remote.
    regards.

true, but would I want to go through the hassle of this happening again? I have the Promedia Ultra 5.1's and they're working fine, but still, I'm hoping there's a cheaper alternative from Klipsch to fix this problem. I do not think I'm the only one to encounter this. The repair for the 5.1's is only $60 + shipping. Do I really want to spend $200 and trash my old ifi system only to maybe have the occurence again and get stuck in the same catch-22?

    Re: IFI amp dead

Just got off the phone with Promedia support again. No price quote for standard send in repairs. I can buy the amp and install it into the ifi without a warranty or basically buy them at costco for $200. Basically I was advised to "trash" my IFI & buy a new one. On the side though, they did not it would be cheaper to send it my IFI's for repair, but there is no ETA because there exists no pricing structure on what they will charge for repairs. God I hate catch 22's...

So buy the amp for $105, install it
    or
buy new IFI's & "trash" the old ones.

Christ, either way I lose more than I intended to

If you knew the store type/location, and the date purchased by cash possibly someone there might be able to reprint a recept for the iFi? Good PR for store chain.

    Hey its worth a try.

It's a great idea, but the circuit city it was purchased from was in Florida. I live all the way out in California as does my brother. I doubt he's going to that region anytime soon for Cheveron Texaco, so that's not really an option for me at this point either
