Newbie lost in the Klipsch world : KG 3, 3.5, KSF, CF, SF... enlighten me pls!!

    Hi there,

I'm an audio enthusiast (rather than an audiophile) and am trying to build a 5 speaker system that I want to use primarily for music (records) and sometimes for movies. I want to use Klipsch sound for my system.

I already purchased a KV 2 Center channel and KG .5 bookshelves for surround speakers.

Now, the real deal is what to choose for main speakers. I have a small room and won't be going for the high end audiophile Cornwalls or fortes or heresys, I'm looking at the KG 3s or 3.5s or KSF 10.5s, RF3s, CF2s...

There are so many of these big bookshelf/tower speakers, each of them having great reviews, I just don't know what to look for!

Would you recommend me going for any of these? Would you recommend me to only go for 3.5s as they should match the .5 and KV2? How would you rank the KG3, KG3.5, KG4, KG 5.2, SF-2s KSF10.5? They're all there on craigslist and ebay and I don't want to make a mistake.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm sure there are lots of people out there who would appreciate your input also!

    Cheers,

    Jeffo

    Welcome to the Forum!!

Regardless of whatever your final decision for a pair of "main" speakers will be, do not dismiss the Heritage series, RF's, Forte/Chorus, etc., out of hand. Reason: In the long run you will (a) be impressed with the capability of those speakers; (2) they are a very, very good investment; (3) are extremely versatile in terms of performance, placement, what they can do, etc., and (4) by the time it's over in your search, you can probably have a set of Heresy's, Chorus/ Forte, RF's, etc. for about -$400-$500. Figure that if you save $250 a month for several months, you will be likely well in the ballpark to go for a much better "main" pair. Only thing I would recommend is take your time; read the forum posts on the Heritage series, RF's, Forte/Chorus, ask questions, listen to owners of those types, and then make a decision. While any Klipsch product is great, go for the "maximum amount of speaker" you can afford. It'll be worth it when you make the decision.

    Hi Jeffo,

    Welcome!!

Based on the parameters established in your post, I would favor the KG's.  They will blend well with your center and rears and will sound quite good all on their own.  Obviously the bigger KG you purchase, the better the sound.  All are available at very resonable prices and easily sold if, later, you decide to upgrade.

    Happy hunting . . . .

The KG3.5's would work nicely with what you already have. The KG4.5's would be better, the KG5.5's more better.
