I would appreciate someone from Klipsch chiming in as well.
My brother purchased a ProMedia 5.1 system, complete with the DD-5.1, back in 2003. The following year, the display "went out" on the DD-5.1, and the entire unit was replaced by Klipsch.
Sometime between then and now, the display on the replacement unit has also gone "bad." Specifically, as soon as the power connection is made, all of the pixels on the right half of the display go dark. Once power is applied, the backlight comes on, but the pixels remain lit (and generally fade out), and nothing else is displayed, such as text, etc.
I disassembled the unit, reseating connections and such, but, at best, this only resulted in intermittent display operation. During these times, entire columns of pixels would remain unactivated, resulting in "streaking" through the text.
I suspect that something is causing the displays to fail, as operations with the remote show that the unit is still processing commands correctly, despite the lack of LCD feedback.
I've recently purchased a fully-functioning DD-5.1 for myself ($50, eBay Buy-It-Now), and would be interested to know if this issue can be prevented (and what the fix is, for my brother's unit).
Best regards,
Eric
