Klipsch CDT-5800s in ceiling speakers vs. SpeakerCraft Aim8 Threes?

    Hello there,

I'm new here and was curious if anyone out there compared these speakers?   Here is my situation:

I'm buying a new house that is in the middle of construction and since I have negotiated a number of upgrade incentives for the house, I am using some of them for in ceiling speakers. One of the upgrades are the in ceiling Klipsch CDT-5800 for a 5.1 system and a RW-12 subwoofer for the great room (large room opens to the kitchen--probably 25 ft x 18 ft with 9 ft ceilings) and for the master bedroom the in-ceiling CDT-2650 speakers for a 5.1 system and the RW-10 subwoofer. The master bedroom speakers will be connected to a Sony DVD Wall Station, but the system in the great room will need a home theater receiver. Anyone have the CDT 5800s in ceiling? What receiver do you use? I went to the local Magnolia and listened to the Pioneer Elite "92" and the Denon 3808? They didn't have the Klipsch speakers in ceiling, so I had to listen to SpeakerCraft Aim8 Threes paired with a 10 inch Martin Logan Subwoofer which sounded great to me. Would these SpeakerCraft's be equivalent to the Klipsch CDT-5800s? Btw, my ears preferred the Pioneer Elite over the Denon.

A little background on me is that I haven't purchased audio equipment for about 12 years and am current using an old NAD AV Dolby Pro Logic receiver made in 1994 and a pair of B & W DM602s? I like the sound for music but since I'm getting these in-ceiling speakers I thought I would upgrade to a more current receiver with more bells and whistles for home theater use etc. But I have to say I have a soft spot for the NAD.

any thoughts on the following items:

    • Are the CDT-5800s and the SpeakerCraft Aim8 Threes equivalent?
    • Any type of AV receiver match particularly well with the Klipsch CDT-5800 (preferably no more that say $1000)
    • Would I be missing out on these speakers if I used my 12 year old NAD receiver?
    • Anyone in the SF Bay Area interested in Buying a NAD AV 716 Receiver (80 watts per channel in stereo mode and 55 watts per channel in surround mode I think) and B & W DM602 speakers (works and sounds great).

Any insights anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,
    Ed

Ok cool, so you saved $$ and have some to spare!
DO NOT pay for your stereo for 20- 30 years... So not from your house $$ That is crazy.
Use cash, or pay it off..On credit in a few months..
    That's my 1st suggestion!
HT: 2008 My Dream La Scala HT System for downstairs is finally 99% done. 7 Split La Scala's, (Timbre up front DOES matter!) Two Klipsch THX KW 120 subs, with the KA 1000 Amp, with the Velodyne SMS-1, Bass management system, with 2 THX series KS-525's as side surrounds. WOW! Dedicated 17' x 30' room, 106" Daylite screen, with the Infocus 7210 DLP Projector. Sunfire Theater Grand IV, Sunfire Signature series 200 x 7 amp. SONY 550 BluRay DVD player. It's Klipsch Nirvana, for me. The ticket booth is open, and the popcorn machine works, So dim the lights, on with the show!!
**NEW** TSCM bass bins with pro split La Scala tops, just for outdoor fun!

Thanks for the suggestion.   Just to clarify, I'm certainly not using the ALL the incentives on speakers just a very small portion. (about 2%).    Normally I wouldn't even do this, but since I'm in the 40% income tax bracket, I can at least deduct a portion of the cost of the speakers off of my house payment using the mortgage interest tax deduction.  Of course, the overall interest payments over 30 years would be much higher this way but that is the trade off.  Instead of using the cash to pay for speakers, I decided to just pay off my car so no car payment, etc.

    Thanks, Ed
