    I Fixed My 5.1 Ultras!

My speakers lasted 2 years, then of course the sattelites went dead and I only have been getting the sub. I know very many people have been getting the loss-of-satellites issue. Thanks to other posters ive tried many possible fixes. On occasion the sats would return on their own. I am not an electrician, nor do I have much knowledge in electronics, but i thought "why would it work sometimes??" After spending countless hours researching ideas and trying fixes, I decided to open up my amp one last time, only this time with it still plugged in and music playing just in case I might catch a loose connection or something (again, im more of an explorer than an electrician...)

Well, after giving myself a few electric shocks around the board :), i came upon what looks like the main BASH chip. You cant miss it - its on the outside of the board, its large, white, sits on its side, and says BASH on it with HC1011 below. Well I gently nudged this chip about 1 degree towards the outside of the board and sound returned instantly. Of course the chip wanted to return to its original place, but a small amount of electrical tape worked wonders. I am ecstatic!!! I will link to a picture I took of the chip for those unfamiliar with the innards...

as a side note: when nudging the BASH chip, I noticed the sound returned in two stages. At first the satellited returned along with a small hissing sound, but by nudging the chip a tad bit more this hiss went away. I thought this was good to know in case other's were having a hissing problem as well...the sound should be nice a crisp.

    I AM SO HAPPY!!!!

this did save me the time and money a lot of others spent shipping their amps back to klipsch for repair. All I had to do was wiggle the chip.

Well I gave that a try, but it didnt resolve my issue. I guess the high pitched squeel coming out of my sub is something more menacing. And to think ive already once had my sub repaired. Sigh.

did you check the connections to the sub speakers themselves? On my amp they easily glide on and off. When the connection was very loose I had feedback.

Everything appears to be fine with my amp, nothing seems lose or burnt out etc. When I turn on the speakers I get a high pitched squeel and any sound coming through is very faint and garbled. The headphone output works fine though.

Has anyone else been able to fix this issue on their own? I took a look and my amp has 2 white chips with BASH on them. I tried doing what had been done above but I didn't notice any change. The screech comes and goes for me so any time it went away i didn't attribute it to anything I had been doing.

    worked for me!

I had my center channel go out maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago.  Last night I finally got around to opening up the sub, moved the BASH chip, and my center channel was back!

     Annex,

That is the exact same thing that happened to my speakers about a week ago. Up until then they had been working flawlessly for about 3 years. Does this sound like the same issue that can be fixed by simply re-adjusting the BASH module?

    Uhhhh.........huh?

At any rate, I tried thecharacter's suggestion and, indeed, it worked for me as well. Wiggling the BASH chip around makes my high-pitched squealing go away and restores sound to my speakers. However, after leaving it running for several hours it seems like it comes back occasionally, requiring me to re-wiggle the chip.

Any ideas on how to firm it in place? Thecharacter mentioned using electrical tape, but I'm not really sure how he did that.

Re: I Fixed My 5.1 Ultras!

I have tried everything to try and fix the BASH chips on mine.  Both of mine are acting funny.  You can wiggle and sound is restored in sub / satellites, but I can never get them to work for more then an hour.

I tried to fix all the solder points making sure they were all touching, etc.  Messed with it for hours today, still can't get them working for over 5 minutes.  Electrical tape is only a temp fix, not sure what else to do.  I'm sure its something with the solder joints.

Any input on a perm fix would be great!

I'm glad this has helped you all, and im sorry i have not responded sooner. i too had problems with the electrical tape. see, the bash chip seems to want to fix only while pressure is being applied, and i tried all sorts of methods including little sticks to prop the chip forward and tape against the chip to apply counterforce...nothing worked. i spent hours trying to find a way to keep the bash chip in place and after days and days of trying different methods, i found one that has been working for several months, although its extremely unconventional: cigarette filters. I am a cigarette smoker, and with nothing else to lose i carefully cut off the filter end of the cigarette from the tobacco (the "foamy" part if you are too young or dont smoke) and wrapped several of these in electrical tape )to help avoid burning if it was possible. i jammed about 4 or 5 of those puppies towards the base of the BASH chip and it clicked on and was pushing back against the filters, keeping them in place. this has been working for me ever since. basically any small squishy foam to push behind the chip and apply pressure will do. hope this helps!

Re: I Fixed My 5.1 Ultras!

Thank You, My Speakers started a very Loud Buzz this Morning, I have sent the Amp portion in 3 times now for repair and just couldn't stomach the idea of sending it in again. I spent almost 500.00 on these speakers and almost 100.00 each repair. but honestly I've had enough of the problems. YOUR Solution has allowed me to keep my LOVED speakers longer Thank You. I have a JL Audio 5 Channel Amp laying around that I was Considering using to run the speakers but didn't like the idea of frankensteining the setup if I don't have to. I pushed the BASH Chip Gently inward and it seems to be holding well. it's kinda strange even with no pressure exerted on the Chip it seemed to improve just by touching it. I wonder if it's a grounding problem , another thing I noticed is how HOT that chip is within moments of powering the system on. I wonder if thats normal and if it is why the didn't equip some sort of heat sink or fan. Oh Well just me Rambling. Again Thanks for the tip I hope it Holds
