Reason why i want to do this, is because i want everybody to share their thoughts and techique on how to fix these SUB problem everyone to seem to be having which are the BASH chip and etc. Personally i really don't know anything about these except the fact that i own one myself and its also came down the point where its not working anymore for most people. So please help if possible or share your thoughts on these SUB.

So anyways i recently posted a thread on this issue, but it wasn't no help because nobody really view it. So i'm deciding to post another one.

Problems: Sub is not working.

Tried: Putting pressure on Bash chip. Moving it around, and etc.

currently the control pod is working. Headset is working also, and i'm also out of idea whats going on. And i'm pretty sure if ya guys share ya thoughts on this problem everybody will benefits from this so please WHORE THIS THREAD!!!

Promedia 4.1 Rear channel not working

Just got my 4.1's delivered today, bought used on ebay. Got the front channel plugged in and works great, rear channel not so great .With both plugged in their is no sound or static, but when turning surround dial, speakers make bad popping sound. Switched the front lines to the rear and vice versa. The "rear spkrs" worked fine in the front channels. All 4 spkrs and sub work, rear channel not work.

A little bit of thinking makes me wanna poke my finger at the rear channel board. Any home fix-its for this? I am pretty sure it could not have been damaged in shipping; extreme bubble wrap, oversized box stuffed with peanuts. When plugging control wires into computer I was unsure about the tanish/purple plug, rear channel or sub? Maybe I put in wrong one and fried channel? Anyways problems I have is:

1-the din plug works randomly. I have to move it in and out, side to side to get the sub and sattelites to work together, but no matter what never all 4+subs . I pushed it in as much as it will go but i'm fed the hell up. So I previously bought a din plug and considered changing it till recently I was pissed and cut part of the rubber from the head thinking it was stopping it from going in far enough. I also used a small screwdriver and on each of the female connectors I tried to bend the inner pins in so to have a tighter fit. Yea, that didn't work as I would want. anyways. Getting pissed more, I somehow did surgery on the male connector trying to figure out the darm 8pin scheme. MR THOMPSON, thank you for your site!!!

http://www.thompdale.com/bash_amplifier/bash_amp.htm

Now I have the wire schematic, and I bought a universal 8 pin din plug but need some help on connecting them all. I have no idea what to do. Do I use a regular solder gun and connect it that way? when I cut part of the black jacket of the wire I saw a silver cover for all of the wires. So I removed it and saw another silver wrap for part of the wires. Now I realise (or so it seems) that I have 2 bare wires to connect . How do I connect these specific wires to the shield? the other problem I think I may have is the female part not cooperating either but after replacing the male plug i'll see if it was only that or both plugs which will mean If it's also the female, I will scrap the whole thing and buy a 5.1 home theatre setup to connect to the pc/tv.

Problem 2: Subwoofer foam deterioted. Any Butyl rubber replacements/kits so it would hold together better?

thought about going with this temporarily till I get my kits:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7k1s5kcNAY&feature=related

Yea, visually it's awesome ;) but I need some bass.

BTW, where are the fuses people talk about checking in the various posts I read?

Thank you all for the help/suggestions/opinions in advance.

Have a great day@

Actually I'll make some photos of the various parts and post those asap..

Promedia 2.1 - sound decreases with increasing volume

Hello all. Familiar story to so many others I have heard regarding promedia 2.1, but with differences. About 2 years after purchase started to go wrong. Lots of crackling and popping and distorted sound from the satellites that *decreased* in volume when i cranked up the volume knob. Fiddling with the 6-pin din jack sometimes seemed to fix it, making me think it was part of the lousy plug syndrome. However, replacing the plug had no effect. The green light on the satellite pod does not light by the looks of it, either. Replacing the plugs made the sound cleaner I think, less static, but still a very poor volume, which decreases when the volume knob is cranked up. All the fuses - main and internal - are ok. Is the control pod wrecked? There are a few available on ebay, including with an improved plug. So sad that such fantastic sound gets spoiled by lousy construction. Very grateful for any tips - thanks, Dave

Any Klipsch Pro Media center channels for sale?

Hey guys, I apologize if this isn't the appropriate forum for this but was simply looking for a matching (or close relative) center for my Pro Media 2.1 set.

Thanks!

Jeremy

Klipsch promedia 2.1 static when adjusting volume

Hi,

I have a Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speaker set for my computer (and it's fantastic!) that I've been using for well over a year. I got it second hand from a friend of mine, and it performs extremely well, but we've both experienced the following problem:

When adjusting volume with the volume control knob, there are what I guess I can describe as bands of static, much like tuning an analog radio. The subwoofer does not work at all and only a small click can be heard when the power is turned on. I took them home and took the back off the subwoofer. I looked around the circuit boards and found a fried resistor (or at least I think that's what it is). It is on the board with a lot of large capacitors, and I'm pretty sure it connects R120 with J113. Now I have no experience with internal electronics whatsoever, so any details on what to do will be helpful when asking somebody more professional than myself. Even turning the bass all the way down to the lowest level on the control pod, and it is still there.

I took the back off of my subwoofer to see if I could see anything obvious. Everything is in good shape and connected. Is this usually a problem with the speakers or the amp? I figure it is a speaker problem, but its hard to diagnose. I've changed the surface its on and everything, plugged it in to a different computer too.

I even took the back amp off and shook the subwoofer gently to see if I could hear anything inside, and nothing. Its getting frustrating.

In an attempt to troubleshoot, I unplugged one of the speakers in the subwoofer. I figure if I could remove one of them, I could at least figure out that it was a speaker problem. Is there a way to do this? Unplugging the two wires that go in to one of the speakers rendered the whole subwoofer useless. To bypass a speaker do I have to keep the circuit intact? How can I do that?

Thanks

Can speaker in ProMedia 2.1 subwoofer cabinet be replaced?

The black rubber parts of the speaker have deteriorated, and the speaker buzzes even at low volumes. I opened up the subwoofer, but it seems the speaker is actually glued in place. Has anyone tried to remove and then replace the subwoofer speaker? Any other recommendations?

Thanks,

Pete

Promedia GMX 5.1 subs daisy chained on Promedia 2.1??

I have a GMX 5.1 setup with 2 subs that I am about to retire because of pod issues. I was thinking about getting the 2.1 that is still being sold and wanted to know if its possible to daisy chain my 2 GMX subs with the 2.1 sub.

promedia ultra 2.0: sometimes no sound

hi, sorry for my english but i'm italian.

i bought this speakers 3 months ago and after 2-3 weeks, while i was waiting the new pc, i started to use them. for a week they work great but after that sometimes there's no sound and, in order to get them work, i have to turn off and on the speakers...

i test them with both line-in and with a pc and a mp3 reader, but nothing... sometimes the sound get off.

a few days ago i shipped them to the seller for assistance, but they told me that the speakers work great... now i'll have to pay 30€ for nothing (plus 12 for the ship... and i have paid them 80€...).

what can i do? can the problem be the power supply ?

In fact, the first time I heard it was while I was watching a video lecture and I thought the guy lecturing had his mic to close to a bracelet :) . In addition to that, I can hear a fuzzy sparking type of sound coming from the amp. This sound coming from the amp still occurs after disconnecting all the speaker wires and input wires save for the control pod which one needs to turn it on. When I turn the system on, the usual "pop" that the speakers make sound louder now and higher in pitch. The subwoofer sometimes completely cuts out and I'm left with just the satellites producing sound. I unscrewed the amp from the subwoofer enclosure and looked around, but I didn't see anything damaged. These noises I'm hearing are sporadic.

I have read about the incredible number of people who have had problems with the amp in this system, and I'm not sure what to do from here. If I do a repair with Klipsch, do they actually fix the design problems so that they won't happen again, or do they merely replace whatever pieces are broken with the same parts?

As a side note, there is a terrible safety issue and design flaw with the control pod on the 5.1 ultras. On two occasions, the volume very quickly and automatically decided to jump way up. It goes up continuously and at a linear pace. By the time I got to the volume knob I thought my eardrums and the speakers would both blow (I was listening to music both times this happened). The volume knob on this system is very finnicky and I think it has something to do with that. You can change the volume by ever so slightly wiggling the knob, yet not increment the knob to the next notch.

Broken Din Connector/Preamp Connection Work Around

Can’t take credit for this work-around as I got the info from this forum. I can’t seem to navigate back to the writer who posted prior to give credit where credit is due. However, I too fell victim to the broken Din connector at the end of the connection cable from the control pod (seems to be a common problem from what I read in the forum). I used the following fix which I had gotten from a prior individual's submission and can verify that it does indeed work:

I've mostly seen the RCX-4 as the center upgrade for these speakers. However, I've found a RC-35 locally for $100 (Used), and wondering if the Bash Amp would be able to accommodate a center channel of that size?

Also, if it would work, would it be too overpowering compared to the RSX-5's?

I currently have these speakers and have loved them for years. Lately, I have been noticing that there is a slight, but audible "hum" and "buzz" noise coming from all the speakers including the subwoofer. I had originally thought it was a grounding issue or crossing of wires. I think I have removed such interferences as I have bought a new grounded power strip and have hooked all possible power cables into that strip. I have also checked to ensure that the speakers have been placed far away from any possible radio interference and have made sure no wires crossed any powered cables.

Alas, to no avail...When I have the sub power plugged in I do not hear the "buzz" it only occurs once I turn the system on via the control hub. The noise is also audible when I plug in headphones into the control hub.

Is this possibly a faulty control hub? Do you sell a replacement or are there any other options available? I love these speakers and it would be a shame to have to replace the speakers just because of a faulty control hub.

Problems on Brand New ProMedia 2.1 set

Hi-

I recently purchased and just received yesterday a set of the mentioned speakers from klipsch.com. After following the instructions and setting them up, the following issues surfaced-

1: left satellite has no volume

2: right satellite is very low volume with static

3: very loud thumping sound can be heard whenever it's on and playing something (every few moments)

4: turning the volume up voids the sound; sound can only be heard when the volume is at the minimum setting

5: sound plays fine when I plug a headset into the headset jack on the control pod (left and right)

edit: sound is the same without the thumping with a headset plugged into the jack on the control pod. I hear some static and it's very low volume. Turning up the volume knob knocks out all the sound altogether.

I'm quite new at this and don't know if I'm setting something up wrong or if I received a faulty unit.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Sound from one speaker

Hello:

Recently, I've started to only get sound out of one of two speakers. Subwoofer is fine. When I switch the speaker cables plugged into the back of the subwoofer the sound comes out of the other speaker. I assume this signals a faulty wire, but wonder if there is any other potential explanation.

Thanks.
