rf83/63 vs rf7ii

To ask a favor of the membership: after reading many posts here, these seem to be the goals for my upgrade of my rb35/rc35 and making them the front of my 7.1 home theater. I have noticed a few list having both in various systems, and some used to have them , now have others. considering the trouble of finding a matching center channel rc64 for older issues, what major differences will I have between these 3 various, RF series mains?

So far I gather that tthe 63, has more detail; 83 seems close but with more Ommph for music. It would be nice to find a way to know where the new series of the 7ii fit in? not that the wife will allow it any time soon, after getting the sw-115 three months ago, I will have to wait for more improvements, but comments from those that have owned and /or heard these side by side would help with upgrade dreams.

Right amp for the job?

OK, I'm going to add a couple of reflex subs (KPT-684's) to my shop for the back wall (60' from the front subs which are THT's). The THT's are being powered by Crown XLS-202, which provides 300 WPC max at the sub's impedance. What I am wondering is which amp would be best suited for the KPT-684's? They cannot dig nearly as low as the THT's (22HZ), as they are rated from 34HZ. I think they are actually more efficient than the THT's at 105db, and they are capable of substantially more max DB at 600 watts rms per driver which is 2400 total. The THT has 500 watt drivers which really choke in those horns at anything above say 200 watts each or 400 watts total.

What I am wondering is should I go ahead and get a big-ass amp that can crank the 1200 watts X 2 into 8 ohms, and should that amp also have DSP filters for cutting off below 35HZ? Keep in mind that I am keeping up with a room full of La Scalas which are pretty loud themselves.

This is a difficult decision because if I get the wrong thing, I'm out a bunch of money. Your thoughts?

Would anyone know if it is possible to test a receivers output on each channel in relation to a certain volume level? I need to find the max safe volume level for my klipsch speakers. Currently, if I turn it up too loud it blows some of the speakers. I need a way to check it for example at volume level - 30 then turn the volume level up to -6 and check it again. Is this possible without creating a short that would blow something in the receiver?

Klipsch La Scalas Too Big For Room?

I have a pair of la scalas on the long wall of a 16' X 11' Room with 7' high ceilings. The speakers are about 12' apart and I sit about 1 feet from the 11' wall so if you factor in the 2' of the la scalas I'm about 8' ft away from the the center of both speakers. Should I sell these and go with some Heresies or Quartest?

I'm simply wondering can speakers be too big for the room. I hate to sell them. I have a pair of Cornwalls those might be too big too, but they have less depth.

Also what are your thoughts on placement in such a room, should speakers be closer together given the distance I sit back. I'm so close that unless I'm in the center of the room I can hear the speakers individually.

Please let me know your thoughts thanks.

RB 61 II or F20's as Fronts

Need some advice. Building a home theater (HT) for the family. The room is fairly small at roughly 15x13, with components built into the front wall. Seating 10" from components. Originally, planned to use RB61-II for the fronts, RC 62-II for the center, RW 12d subs and a Yamaha 7.2 receiver. We are not trying to shake the house off the foundation, just a good crisp clean sounding home theater. I recently purchased a pair of F20s for a different room. Now i am wondering if i should use the F20s instead of the RB61-II's for the (HT) fronts? considering the size of the room, would there be much difference between the two? I don't have much experience with either of these speakers. Thanks,

Which Emotiva amp combo should I use?

I currently have a UPA-2 and a UPA-5 both used but in excellent shape. I originally bought these to power a Klipsch RF-7II setup. I recently sold the Reference speakers and am piecing together a Klipsch Thx Ultra 2 7.1 setup. The sensitivity on these speakers are 97db and 96db. I happened to stumble across a great deal on a brand new still sealed in box pair of UPA-1s. As I see it I have four options. I would appreciate any input from people with experience with any of these options.

1. Sell the UPA-1s, keep the UPA-2 and UPA-5 and put some of the money towards speakers.

2. Sell the UPA-2, use the monos for L & R and use UPA-5 for center and surrounds.

3. Sell the UPA-2 and UPA-5, use the monos for L & R, buy XPA-5 and use for center and surrounds.

4. Sell the UPA-5, buy another UPA-1 for LCR and buy another UPA-2 for surrounds.

See why I am driving myself crazy!

HK 3700

Well I know there are a bunch of Harmon Kardon fans here and I haven't really heard allot about this receiver but I just ordered it. Now the waiting game begins. This receiver has some HUGE shoes to fill as it is replacing a Pioneer SC-35 with 140W I.C.E. amps but I have been wanting to get back into a HK receiver ever since I got my RF-63's. I went and looked at the Pioneer SC-61/65 today and they are no doubt great receivers but couldn't talk myself into buying either for some reason. Here is my receiver Journey oldest to newest with a rudimentary 1-5 star rating (1 lowest, 5 highest) Onkyo TX-SR600 *** Harmon Kardon AVR 645 **** Pioneer 1012K *** Harmon Kardon AVR 247 **** Denon AVR-3808CI *** Pioneer Elite SC-35 **** I am VERY worried about the weight on the 3700, it only weighs 21lbs and my SC-35 weighs in at 65lbs... Harmon says " new lightweight digital, Eco friendly amps produce high current 125-watts-per-channel" probably marketing BS but who knows.. Anyway, I will post up my impressions when it arrives.

Any 3D blu ray player suggestions?

I have been using my PS3 for my blu rays since my LG player died a little while back. My PS3 is now on it's last leg and the fan is so loud that I think the neighbors hear it sometimes. I have thought about just getting another PS3 but don't want to buy one with the new PS4 coming out by the end of the year. Plus, my LG player had better picture quality anyway. My thoughts were any decent blu ray player will have a better picture the sony, but now I'm not so sure.

So I ordered the Oppo BDP-103 a couple of weeks ago thinking it would be the greatest thing ever just to find out how wrong I was. The picture quality isn't even as good as my son's $40 LG player we bought at Walmart's Black Friday sale. Motion looks very slurred and weird on it. For instance, anything with words on it in a moving picture you can't even read. I have horrible crosstalk on 3D. I have done A/B comparisons to my PS3, my son's el cheapo player and the Oppo loses every time. The Oppo hass amazing sound quality and it looks nice in my signature and sitting my shelf but that is about it.

The other day I ordered a refurbished $300 Samsung 3D player for $60 dollars which got great reviews so I thought that would work. I hooked it up yesterday and in the set up menu where you put in the size of your screen for the 3D only has room for two digits so 99" was the largest I could use even though my screen is 120". That didn't matter anyway though because when I put in a 3D blu ray the player said the my display didn't support 3D even though it does and no setting that I could change would let me play 3D.

All I need is a 3D player with good picture quality, good sound quality, and one that doesn't screw up the 3D image without spending a million dollars. I have spent hours reading reviews on players and I can't figure out which one to buy. Any help please!!

RW12d corner port?

I've been trying to figure out what sub to get.

I'm concerned about putting a rear ported sub in a corner. I see the RW12d says it's a corner ported sub and maybe even front ported, but when I look at pics of the sub I don't see any ports. What am I missing?

Bluetooth Adapter for UMC-1

I got a ton of music on my tablet but no really good way to listen to it on the HT setup. I am wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for bluetooth adapters that will work with the UMC-1 (because it can be somewhat finnicky with certain sources). Emotiva has one for the UMC-200 that would have been perfect had it worked for the UMC-1 as well. I would also prefer for it to have digital out (not sure if they even come with analog outs)

How difficult would it be to re sell an Emotiva UPA-500?

Just got this baby today thanks to the UPS Man. This speaker is much heavier and looks much nicer than I imagined. I will piecing this system together as I find good deals and this on was the first. More pics to come as I get more speakers.

Amplifier help please

I now have a pair of CF-4's and thusly finalized my left and right speakers for my bedroom theater. My bedroom theater receiver will always be the receiver that was displaced by a receiver upgrade in the main home theater. Currently I have a Denon 989 powering the CF-4's but fully realize that they would benefit from a pair of monoblock amplifiers. Here's the catch, the receiver/preamp that I will be using in the future has balanced outputs which are XLR. So I am looking for a pair of monoblock amplifiers that have both balanced and unbalanced inputs. I am looking for any suggestions that would be in the 200-300 watt into 8 ohms range and under 500 dollars each, I prefer used since there is typically much better value to be found. Any suggestions?

TV/audio stand that he RC-64ii will fit in

Hi guys I've looked around the forum posts for a reference to an audio stand that the RC-64ii will fit in. The only ones recommended are almost as much as a set I'd RF-7iis! I hate to be cheap, but surely there is a rack that can hold a decent amount of components and the RC-64ii. Right now I'm wandering through online catalogs trying to find something with WAF and still meet my needs. Anyone have face this before? I don't want to spend over $2800 for a stand from haven ( their lowest price that will accept the RC-64ii) Any help out there? Thanks in advance Randy

My house is still under construction but I wanted to get everything ordered so that its ready when the house is. First a pic of my Home Theater room under construction. The room is 16' x 15' x 9' in a basement. I sound proofed the ceiling with drywall strapping & Roxul Sound Proof Insulation. All the wiring is 14/4 Monster in-wall THX certified wire.
