cant decide, need advice

I'm working on a photo gig that might give me some extra speaker money and am considering an upgrade to my home made rears (which will become my garage speakers).

I'm one of those poor saps that has the couch against the rear wall and does not have side walls which are feasible for mounting.. I'm looking at either RB-81's on stands pointed at the LP or RS-62's mounted along the back wall with the combined 180 deg. coverage for the LP. Option C would be holding out for another pair of RF-5's (to appease those that feel matching speakers all the way around)

either option will be useable in future houses, so I'm mostly concerned for the best option to use now with the widest versatility in the future. my current surrounds do the job, but since I've been looking for garage speakers, I might as well use the funds toward my main setup. or maybe i should look for a new sub ..hell, i dunno. i'll snap a few pics of my current setup and post for reference

AVR Suggestions

Hi everyone, I'm new here and i need some help on deciding what AVR to buy. I'll be buying the Klipsch RF-62 series and i have no ideal which AVR is best suited for these set of speakers. i just want the best quality of audio an AVR can provide these speakers. I'll be using it more on movies. A 7.1 or 7.2 AVR is what im looking for and price range is between $400 - $800. I'd appreciate any suggestions..... Thanks in advance!!!

Acting as a preamp to my 5 channel and 2 channel amps. What would a newer unit like a Rotel 1098 pre HT processor http://www.rotel.com/NA/products/ProductDetails.htm?Id=20 do for me that I currently do not have?

I am looking to see when I need to upgrade and why. I like the sound I have but wondering if things are better now than in the past etc.

What size screen?

OK... so I didn't write down any legit numers last night so I might be foggy on them.

If you have a 16' wide room and will be sitting roughly 12 to 14 feet from the screen.... what size screen would be the right proportion?

Also... how do you decide where the screen goes vertically? How many inches from the floor (up), or how many inches from the ceiling (down) should the center of the screen be?

Wife & I were in the downstairs room last night trying to figure out some of these issues so we (she) can decide how she wants to place some things.

hi all, i currently have rcx-4 as a center and I will be getting the rc-64 by march. But I got a really good offer from craigslist on a rc-52's. would it be a big improvement over the rcx-4's? or should i just wait till march for the rc-64. if i get the rc-52's i can just sell both after i get the rc-64's. by the way the 63's just keep impressing me! wow! i turn this thing up and with only 80watts onkyo its loudly nice. i cant imagine when i get a separate amp. i listen all kinds of music from classical to pop to rock to hiphop, instrumental etc... also movies. WOW RF-63's are fire breathing monsters!

I've always used the 20-50 dollar surge protectors from places like costco or wal mart. I was going to pick up an apc c10 from vanns.com, but the sales guy is suggesting some other one that is 120 bucks more. I'll be running 2 klipsch sub 12s, an onkyo 1007 receiver (with four klipsch s3s hooked up) and an emotiva xpa 5 (with 4 f3s and 1 s3 hooked up) off it. Do I really need a fancy power supply or is that all "monster" type hype?

Sounds like the sale goes through December 31st or as long as they have something in stock. That's good because I have 3 bonuses at the end of each year from work and I'll know the total of them by then. Time for an upgrade!!

RF-35 vs RF-52

I recently got a package deal on ebay a guy was selling. These are all brand new in the box:

RS-42 Rear channels (pair); RC-52 Center; RPW sub; RB-35 Front surrounds (pair)

I researched and the rs-42 and the rc-52 are pretty good. The RPW I've read some good and some bad. The RB-35's I can't seem to find too much about. Are they ok for the front surrrounds? I see some good deals on the rf-52 but not sure which is best to have. I was thinking that I could also mount the rb-35s on the sides of the projector screen. I am just not sure if I should keep them or buy the rf-52s or just hold out and use the rb35s until I find a better deal on a better speaker. What do ya think?!! Thanks!!

Best 5.1 Reciever for under $500?

The title says it all guys. What is the best bang for your buck reciever under $500? I am still trying to decide if I am just going to match it up with the Klipsch HD theater 5.1 or start building a set starting with the RF52's. I am attached to another house so doubt I could rock it out all the time.

ok so i bought a new f-1 system hooked it all up to my yamaha reciv. and after a couple of songs/movies i could hear that one of my rear speakers sounded less vibrant and the bass not as strong as the other one. after some tweaks on the recv. i managed to get it to sound as good as the other one by turning up the "SP" level all the way to the max.once i do this they sound identicle.

my question is. Is this a bad thing? am i hurting the speaker by turning the SP level all the way up ? should i send it in?

oh by the way im a noob things i did: i changed out the cable, swicth channels on the recv.

on a side note the "good" speaker "sp" level is set to default. thats why im concerned. Shouldnt they both sound just as good on the same "SP" level?

Thoughts on this tube amp?

Receiver upgrade question

Hello all

I am currently using an Integra dtr 8.8 with RF83 fronts, RC64 center, RS64 sides, RF63 rears, and a RT10D sub. This combination really rocks for both movies and music. I have been getting the upgrade bug again and have been trying to decide how to go. I was looking at the Sunfire 4 series but it seems to lack some of the features that I currently enjoy with the integra. From everything I have looked at so far the new Pioneer Elite SC-27 looks like it might be something special. From the reviews I have seen the set up options and sound quality is supposed to be really outstanding in all situations except the phono output seems to be somewhat lacking. Having had two Integra receivers and no experience with Pioneer equipment I keep wondering if I would be upgrading or actually downgrading.

I got my RF 83s from a tip on this site and my rc64 from a local dealer after seeing all the trouble some have had getting them shipped in one piece. I live in the sticks of Idaho and it is really hard to find good quality audio gear.

Appreciate any ideas

QUINTET SL 5.1 upgrade to 7.1/9.1

I have the Klipsch QUINTET SL 5.1 speakers, and would like to upgrade to 7.1 or 9.1.
I am not sure if i should get new floor speakers to replace left and right or just get satellites for the rear/front ?

if i understand right, if i get new rears they do not need to be timber matched,
but front floors do.
and what about 9.1 do the height speakers need to be timber matched ?
and if i get new floors what position should i move the other speakers to?

this system is hook up to Yamaha 665 amp and ps3/blu ray.

we like our music very loud , but watch a lot of movies also.

can u recommend some floors that timber match QUINTET SL ? or my best options for this set up please.

Can the RS52 be mounted upside down?

Hey,

Not sure if this has been covered before, if so, mod please direct me to the info and delete the thread.

In my current setup, RF82 and RC64 up front and a pair of RS52 as surrounds. I've always noticed that in my surrounds that one speaker sounds louder or easier to locate its location much easier than the other. I always thought that my receiver is doing something weird by playing one surround louder than other, or the surround effects were more biased on one side vs the other in the movie content. It drove me crazy, during movies, I'm always changing the surround channel's output to get them matched by ear. I took a SPL meter to measure the individual volume when playing receiver's built in test tones, but they were always even matched in volume. I look a closer look at the RS52 last night and realized that, on each of the RS52 the tweeters on each side were on opposite sides to each other. That means the tweeter on the left side of the RS52 that's on my right surround is lower than the tweeter on the right side of the RS52 on my left surrounds. Could this be the reason why the right surround always sounds louder to me in seated position? If so, can the RS52 be mounted upside down? If I mount one of them upside down then, the tweeter heights would match on both surrounds, when in seated position. Thanks for reading this.

info on speakers and room size

Hello, my room is @ 14x15 and looking to purchase a better speaker package for it. I cannot find a local retailer on klipsch in order to hear their speakers and I don't want to buy too big of speakers for this size of room. I can purchase used rf-62 for $600 a pair (good deal?) but then was looking at rs-42 and rc-52. Would this be too muck for this room? Thanks

rf-63 bass?

hi all, is there anyone out there that has rf-63's? .. i was going to get the f-3's or the rf-82's but i got a good deal with the 63's so i went with them. I listened to it last night and i thought there would be more bass i watched movies and music. The salesman told me the the 82's had more bass is this true? i hope i didn't make a bad choice. I dont want to upgrade anymore. so i got the rf63's and i will be getting rc-64 later on. to match at. Right now it is matched with rcx-4 center! hahahah. Maybe i just got to play with the settings more on my amp. or use a 2channel amp instead. i got onkyo receiver 75watts per channel. i'm so excited bout my speakers. I just need someone to tell me didn't make the bad choice by choosing the rf-63's over rf-82's. Also is the rf-10's available in canada at all? maybe i can tell my local klipsch dealer to order me one. I forgot to ask last night. Will the rf-10's have more bass than 63? thanks everyone! oh ya i had a hard time choosing from black to cherry. but i got cherry its so nice..

Setting up Surround for my new system

I recently purchased a Pioneer KRP-500M monitor, a Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH receiver and a Pioneer Elite 23FD bluray player. I have temporarily hooked it all up to my cheapo Onkyo 6 year old htib, which is by far the weak link and needs an upgrade. I am a total neophyte concerning speakers, but have started listening to some speakers, and really like some of the Klipsch speakers, listened to VF-36, WF-34, WF-35 and XF-48s. Best Buy is the only place I have found to listen (n. Virginia/DC). I liked the XF-48s and WF-35s the best.

I want a 5.1 surround, maybe upgrade to a 7.1 later. My budget will probably go up to maybe $2500. I saw the deal from a certain online retailer of $499 each for the XF-48s which seems like a great deal. Would these be a good starting point for me to build a system? I know these are powered and have read a few reviews, the reviews were very positive and they may be a good fit if I later move my monitor to a bedroom, wouldn't then need a receiver in bedroom? Are there any problems with going with the powered speakers?

Do these need to be matched with other XF series center and surrounds, or can other series speakers be used? Thanks alot for any help.

Non-Home Theatre Info needed

Anyone here have background in real Cinema?

I have a chance to grab some gear out of a closed theatre here, but am having a hard time finding info on some of the stuff.

Main thing is some Cinemeccanica CP 40 mono amps, but would like to at least know some specs/year, before I pull the trigger.

Still trying to convince him to sell the Altec V.O.T.'s(that he calls old junk mono speakers) , but he wants to sell them with the whole package with the projectors and that's not going to happen, for me at least.

Grabbing up some seats this week though, at least one has had my butt in it many times before.

Using Heresy II Center Channel W/Heresy I Fronts - Opinions

I currently have no center channel and am tired of listening to my HTIB center channel. I can either wait around for a single Hersey or a cheap pair or I can purchase a Heresy 2 for $125 to use as the center channel for my Heresies. What should I do? Is the sound difference that noticeable that when playing surround sound Dobly Music I would be like man that Heresy two sounds different? How close are they in sound? Being that it's being used as a center channel would the diff even be that noticeable? Please Advise Thanks.

An All Heresies Heritage Home Theatre System

Well, I have finally set up a 5.1 home theatre system with four Heresies I for fronts and surrounds and a single Heresy II for center. For the sub I use a KSW-10. The system sounded quite incredible. Explosions are very realistic, however, it seemed to lack dynamics. I am on a tight budget for the moment and the KSW-10 I scrapped from an old Quintet II system. Is there a budget sub that would blend well with the heresies which will give me the dynamic boost I needed?
