I like the Icon series and had the whole kit here for a while, but I considered the WC24 pretty undersized compared to the WF35. I don't know why Klipsch didn't make the center larger except maybe for decor reasons. Many home entertainment cabinets just don't have the space for a larger center speakers.

I still use the little WB14's in my bedroom and love them. Great sound in a small package.

I ended up listening to the WF series when I was looking at speakers. They sounded ok, but for the price point of the WF series, I would probably buy the RF series. If there is a place locally that has them, don't forget to give the RF-83's a listen too!

hey guys, i did not realize that i get a very good price on RF-82's here in my store, and that we have them in both black and cherry. nice...

Is an RC-52 center going to be overpowered by RF-82 mains, even after running the audyssey on the new onkyo TX-SR806?

EDIT: Anyone had the opportunity to hear this setup in person? with a diff amp ....

EDIT#2: why do folks say the 52 wouldnt be the best? it uses the same tweeter as the RC52... from klipsch.com:

So, it's not like it's going to be completely different sounding than the RF82s, eh ?

Whatever you do- do not get in a hurry and end up having to quickly upgrade.. like yours truly

I'm starting to think that I should just purchase a decent AVR for now (onkyo TX-SR806), use audyssey multiEQ to calibrate my current setup, and go from there. One step at a time, eh ? Means i wont get a discount on WF's if I dont get em before i leave my job, but maybe it does mean i'll pickup something 'better' used down the road, for the same cash or less?

Huge is a relative term. I've got used to having a pair of washing machine-sized boxes in my living room, and now I think I can find room for their big brother fridge-sized boxes. Bigger really is better when it comes to horn-type speakers. When you see and hear a Heritage setup, you'll know what I mean.

Hmm, looks like everyone's telling you to jump right into the deep end. Well, the water really is fine.

I like the smaller tower design of the WFs

I dont know if they have any matching RF centers left though.

EDIT: Ive got a large center channel boston vr-12 (8.5" high) and it's too tall... i'd prefer a lower height one, to fit directly under my TV. It's currently one shelf down, which is not ideal.

Towers will have a better polar response, but them's a can of worms you probably don't want to get into....the gist is that the towers will have a more focused sound and thus will sound more full. Digging lower is kinda irrelevant if you set your mains to small (which you should do).

Is there any chance of landing the reference series instead of the WF series? I personally prefer the sound of the Reference lineup a lot more....and it has much larger and more potent center channels available too.

hello again klipsch community!

Any opinions on bookshelves as mains? (WB-14) instead of towers (WF-35) ...

ive got a nice big sub to take care of everything below 80hz, though im not sure i like the idea.

Isnt there stereo (front) or even surround effects for that matter, below 80hz in todays movies?

surely you're missing something with bookshelves as mains? And i dont just mean that towers 'play louder'. Bookshelves cannot reproduce stuff below 60hz-70hz accurately... surely there's stuff on the front L/R channels that is meant to be heard there in these freqs?

Updated my profile quickly at work. Check it out. I prefer accurate sound, definitely... even if just on principal :) I prefer to listen relatively loud, nothing uncomfortable though. Obviously dependant on the time of day being in a basement suite. I prefer new goods, though used is an option locally. My experience is limited to what i've got unfortunately. I've auditioned Boston VR3's in a proper soundroom, and have listened to some tube driven speakers at a friends years ago, but not for a signifigant amount of time. Don't listen to much music on this system. I will be adding a blu-ray player sometime soon. wow, it auto formatted my post into one big jumble. Im doing this from a mac in safari... weird.

Prefer extra bass punch or flat accuracy?

Other planned additions or upgrades?
Tweaking audiophile – handy, willing to DIY?
Prefer new or used?
What else have you tried?

Otherwise, I say used big ole horns - people sell them cheap and they can sound great with the right equipment!

Q-Lectronic is where I got my La Scalas, and last year they had a pair of Klipschorns. They've also had Heresies in the past. You never know what you'll find there, and they have a high-end room upstairs. I also got my Technics turntable there.

They may have good deals, but i doubt they can beat cost +5%.

Do they carry klipsch? Or Boston?

Ive got Boston A100 Series II's and a VR12 right now. Love the VR12, would love some Boston VR3's in black ash.

Eeither that or the WF-35 / WC-24 setup... my dilema :/

Yeah, I live just a few blocks from there. I was kidding a bit, but it is really cheaper in the long run to buy the speakers you want now, instead of trading up and up and up. I know, new Heritage are really pricey, which is why I have all used Heritage (except for the Heresy III kit I put in my centre speaker).

Have you had a look at Canuck Audio Mart? That's where I found both pairs of my Heresy IIs. Bookmark it and check regularly to see what's available.
