Klipsch Sub-12 bench test

Anybody know where I can find results of a bench test for the Klipsch Sub-12? I'm interested in the -/+ 3dB frequency response info, as well as maximum dB at the -3dB frequency

SW12 Humming Its Own Tune :o(

I just picked up an SW12 today that has a humming noise issue.

First I plugged it into a few outlets around the house and it would hum in every outlet. However, if I touched any one of the line level input jacks the humming would stop instantly and the sub would be dead silent. I remove my finger and the hum returned.

Next, I decide to hook up to the amplifier and speakers. I turn on the sub (and no other components) of course the hum is there. I touch one of the input jacks...thinking the hum would go away...wrong...still humming. After leaving it powered on and no other components turned on for about 5 min, the hum goes away on its own.

Looking for any ideas on how to fix the problem. Why would the hum go away when touching the line level jack with no high level connections. But after high level connections, touching the line level jack does, well "jack" the hum remains?

Any problems leaving the sub on 24/7?

Help with setting up and adjusting KSW-10

I have a KSW-10 sub hooked up to a NAD T755 receiver and I have no idea if it's set up properly. The receiver doesn't have speaker posts for speaker wire but it does have Sub 1 and Sub 2 connections. I have an RCA subwoofer cable to connect the 2 together. Now what? The sub has the following controls: Line In, Low Pass Crossover, Level, Phase 0/180 and Power Off/Auto/On. Is there an ideal setting or starting point for these controls? I have RF-3 Fronts, RS-3 Surrounds and an RC-3 center. Any help would be great.

SW12 Connection Question

I have a solid state Yamaha amp (M85) that I use in my 2-channel system. The amp has three speaker outputs. I have my Lascala's and a set of outdoor speakers connected to the amp. Can I simply connect the SW12 to the remaining speaker output?

I recently acquired an RSW-15. I previously owned the SVS 20-39pc+. I have been experimenting with both for a few days now. I am curious as to how many of you use BOTH subs at the same time. What are your impressions on music and HT use? How do you have them setup?

Just curious as to what most have done with dissimilar subs like these.

Sub to match KHorns & Heresy

Current setup is KHorns for LR, Heresy center/surround, el cheapo RCA 8" powered sub from the electronic junk drawer. I hope to go to Belle or La Scala for center (maybe rears) someday but for now am planning to use Heresy. While the current setup sounds OK, I notice the bass is WAY better running in stereo which makes sense since that routes the bass to the KHorns. My question is what sub to use to match the KHorns/Heresy HT speaker setup. Not worried about price (within reason).

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Will these two match up well? I read that adding a second subwoofer will be a great additon,. I'm also changing to Denon 4810.

I'm under the impression that I can no longer get the big Klipsch for $1400 but I can get a used Paradigm for the same price.

Any suggestions using Klipsch info especially appreciated. Also accepting advise on other sups in that pricerange from other manufactorers..

I'm building a new room in the basement so now's the time when the slate is clean and the money can be fleible if really helpful.

DIY sub info

Hey I'm looking for some extra bass to accompany 4x Klipsch kp-362's.

Used outdoor for electronic music mostly,

Any ideas on powered/passive, driver(15"/18") and layout( tapped/folded etc.)?

I haven't had much experience with powered speakers, I've got a 400w Qsc power amp free so I'd like to use that but most likely will need more power, and a dedicated sub amp? I also have a 200w sub amp that I haven't really tested but imagine it won't provide the boost I'm after...

What are some good on board amps, considering price an performance?

In regards to DIY plans, I need something with some proven results(some of these guys seem a bit dodgy), I can follow a well made plan, an I don't want to put my time, effort an money into something which turns out to be a freakshow!

Any ideas, comments appreciated...

Need help from the subwoofer experts

I'm hoping to find a solution to a problem i have created for myself. I have used an SVS 20-39 pc+ for years in my HT and listening room. I used it for both movies and 2ch. I always yearned for a better music sub, like the RSW-15. I just picked one up, brand new, never opened.

I have been comparing the two for the last few days and realize that I like the musicality and precision of the RSW-15 for music, but it leaves me wanting in the movie effects arena. The SVS kills the RSW in the movie sound.

My question, is what to do? I originally planned on selling the SVS, but am now questioning that option. My current thought is to keep them both. Seems like somwhat of a waste of available funds to me.

My current plan is to have the subs on an RCA switch and select one or the other depending on source material.

Upgrading from Sub 12 to RT-10D? or should I get something else?

I just bought a new system, an am upgrading from the klipsch quintet SL's to the klipsch RF-82's, RC-52, RS-42's. I currently have a Synergy SUB 12, it does it's job, but I'm a bass head and want a good sub to match my new reference speakers. I found the RT-10D for 799.99 online and am debating upgrading to it, anyone have feedback on whether this is a good sub, and if it's worth the upgrade. Other suggestions are welcomed my budget is around 800 for a sub. I'd like to stay with Klipsch if I can.

KSW_10 Sub, broke? Now what?

I've got a 1998 10" sub that just recently stopped working for apparently no reason at all. It comes on, the power light turns green, but it doesn't do anything. I do notice that the switch on the back isn't really super positive anymore, I wonder if that could be the problem?

If I can't fix it myself, does Klipsh have a service department? Any idea what the cost to repair would be? This sub has done me well for the longest time, I really don't have any need to upgrade. What is the equivalent on today's market?

Help! RW-10d screen only shows white squares

Hello, I just got the RW-10d sub and right out of the box when I plugged it in the screen will only show a series of squares. It won't let me do anything and there is no response from the sub whatsoever. Is there something that I'm missing here? I've checked and rechecked all my connections over and over and nothing is plugged in wrong. I've tried three different outlets and a powercenter, I've tried plugging it in with no audio in and trying it with only the L then only the R audio in and still nothing. I have a brand new Harman Kardon 247 receiver and I've never had another sub hooked into it nor do I have a sub to test it out to make sure that the sub output is working, but since I get the screen with only squares all over it even without an audio in hooked up I image it's something with the subwoofer. I'm at a complete loss here. If anyone has any advice at all I'd be extremely happy. I'm also going to try calling Klipsch here in a minute to see if they have any ideas. I just really want to avoid having to make an exchange since that will probably take the better part of 2-3 weeks.

Ok the sub I have now is a 12" downfiring sub from Best Buy, I just bought a RSW 15 off of ebay for $750 (not sure if I got ripped or not) but am I going to hear a big difference between the two? Should I hook up and use both subs or would I be better off with the one 15"? Thank you

I took a lightening strike to my home and it killed my prized KSW 200 subwoofer.

Am I safe in assuming that I probably just need to replace the amp board? If so, does anyone know where I might begin to look for such a part?

Hello all.

I just got my hands on a SVS PB2-ISD subwoofer now with my pioneer SC-05 and RF-62's. I'm attempting to get punchy base out of this box but I run MCCAC setup (which is recommended by the SVS manual) while having it 1/3rd up, i then hear the rumble then MCCAC says the sub volume is too high. so i drop the gain lightly to 1/4 and sound test finishes up fine. I have my sub in the front lof corner against both walls since this is what is recommended in general. i just dont feel that extra umph of LFE that should be coming out my towers and the sub.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a KSW-300 subwoofer that has served me well for quite some time. Recently it was disabled by a lightening strike. I lost a lot of equipment and very litte of it has been completely fried. I think this subwoofer is salvageable.

I am temped of course to upgrade to some other bad boy like the RT-12d or something. The issue is the insurance. Just about anything that I purchase would be an upgrade since I wouldn't settle for less but the insurance only covers "replacement". I fear that I am going to be forced to repair this KSW-300. I wouldn't mind that specifically since it has been a respectable member of the audio team in here. If I upgrade they may only agree to cut me a check for the depreciated purchase price. That won't net much.

The box powers up (red LED on) and the fuse does not blow. It, however, remains on even if you move the switch to off. There is no response to audio nor any deflection of the cone when the plug is inserted/removed from the wall. I haven't tried all of the inputs.

Since the surround receiver had to be replaced with a Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH which I can argue is a direct replacement for the prior Elite unit, I am assuming that the damage to the subwoofer was caused by the charge through the LFE input. It probably fried the circuit right in that vicinity which also involves the auto power-on detect I assume.

Do any of you know if there are schematics available? Would there be replacement boards available? I can handle the component level repair but would rather be spared the reverse engineering if support is readily available. I suppose I could purchase another used KSW-300 if I find one and make one good one out of the two

Any advice? Experience with insurance companies and audio replacements?

RW-10D Sub - Dead?

Hey guys,

Just bought a used RW-10D - looks like its in great condition but for some reason it just doesn't produce any bass. The subwoofer does turn on when I plug it in, but none of the inputs seem to work - I've tried both the Sub line, the line outs, and the speaker wire methods to my receiver but to no avail. I even tried the line outs into my ipod via coaxial to 3.5mm adapter, but I could not get any bass out of the subwoofer.

Just wondering if the subwoofer is shot - weird considering it does power on and the light stays green.

I finally auditioned the JL F113 with music that I'm familiar with, and in a pretty decent room. All I can say is, WHAT A BIG LETDOWN!! I am not sure how these subs are touted as being at the top of the pack, but I was VERY un-impressed! Yes, it was properly set up and calibrated. I have spent a lot of time listening to different subs, including the rsw-15, rw-12d, avs mfw-15, sub-12, and a few others, and they are without a doubt much better than the JL. Both in SQ and probably even or slightly better on output.

For comparison's sake, there was another sub in the room made by BG which is an isobaric set-up. A design not used much anymore. It has two 10" drivers with a 500 watt rms amp. It was very impressive in output, depth, and tightness. Needless to say, it was leaps and bounds above the JL. I am going to have it in my set-up to audition it for awhile. Here is the link to it:
