1968 Klipschorn Speakers - For Sale

I inherited the pair of Klipschorn speakers from my father who purchased them in 1968.  I do not have room for them in my current home and I am looking to have them go to a good home.  They are in great shape and have not been reconditioned and have the original speaker covering.

I am asking $800 each for the speakers plus shipping/handling if you are not going to pick up.  I live in a suburb of Minneapolis/St Paul Minnesota.

     hmmmmm...

I'll bite, but lightly. I'm close (Crosslake, MN) so could pick up, had earmarked funds for a new receiver, but these might be a better investment. Of course, the place I'm currently living has NO corners, but it's only temporary. What else can you tell me about drivers, crossovers, etc? I really know little about these as to specifics of what components are preferred, finishes, coverings, etc, but I can learn fast. Look for a pm from me.

    nooooooooooooooooo, your Dad's Klipschorns????

How can you sell them, those are family heirlooms, why else do you think we call them Heritage.

But if you must, please make sure they go to a good home and insist that the buyer pick them up personally so they don't become kindling.

I'd say find out about perhaps building a false corner??

Being the sentimental type, I'd vote for you to keep them if they belonged to your father.  You'll never be able to get "them" back should you later in life, regret letting them go.

LOLOL... already thinking that when I get home tonight I need to search through The Dope From Hope and find the info on false corners. PM has been sent, hopefully will hear something back today, being a new member who knows, he might only get on every other day?

*Edited for spelling and missing words, was late for an appointment when I originally posted this.

Finally made it home and am not rushed for time. A couple questions...

What drivers and crossover would have been used in these when new, are they still there, and what would be the preferred ones to have if they were to be updated? Or would they best be left alone with the factory bits? If I get these I have no intentions to make any changes anytime soon, but would be good to know for future reference. They do look stunning now that I can study the pics, is there any damage to either of them to the woodwork or grill? I have always been partial to that grill style.

I need to dig up my Dope From Hope Papers, buried somewhere as I'm in between houses right now, or will search through here and find info on false corners. Unless someone has a link handy, it would be appreciated.

I really wasn't looking to buy new horns right now, my receiver is dying a slow death, which is why I have a thread going in the HT section trying to decide on a replacement. The funds for that would end up going to these speakers instead. How silly am I going to look sitting here with new 40 year old speakers and no power source to drive em? I suppose I could dig out the HK 430 I bought off eBay a year ago, once I cleaned it it worked fine. We'll see what happens.

If anyone with more experience wants to offer up advice on inspecting these, it would be much appreciated.

I'll add, possibly to my chagrin,  I echo the other posters sentiments, that if they were your fathers for the last 40 years, you may wnat to reconsider selling them.

I'd rather ask a stupid question than correct for a stupid mistake.

Yea I know I should keep them but I do not have room for them and I own a smaller set of Klipsch speakers and my brother-in law also owns Klipsch speakers.  No place to hand them down in the family......so off to another good home they go........

All of the cross overs, tweeters, mids, etc are all the original equipment that was on the speakers when purchased in 1968.  To my knowledge no modifications was completed at all.......they still sound fantastic.  They are also in fantastic shape as my father was very picky about these speakers.

Sent you a seperate message with additional pictures......

    Cheers

So I see.. I just got done reading it and was contemplating my response as I read through this thread:

    http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/38166.aspx

I'd added it to favorites years ago when fini was getting his horns and I thought it might have some good information for whenever I ran across a set that interested me.

They do look very nice, the one chip you pointed out is not a big deal, these are, after all, 40 year old speakers. If they were minty new they'd be out of my price range anyway. What was he driving them with? And might it be for sale aas a package deal? I am losing my receiver, it's dying a slow death on one channel, I was looking for it's replacement, but that would be the funds used to finance these speakers. What's your schedule like if I were to attempt a run down there to take a look/listen?

I'd rather ask a stupid question than correct for a stupid mistake.

From the codes, I believe these are actually 66's. Can anyone tell me what the rest of the number/letters on the sheet mean? Specifically, the K-C-HS?

Klipschorn, C style, but can't find the finish code after several searches here.

Also, are they consecutive numbers, and is not, can you get the other number?

I'm really not trying to run you through hoops, just wondering things aloud, kinda excited about the prospect of what might be happening here.

E in the serial number is for 1966 and I believe the HS stands for hickory satin?  Nice speakers...

Yeah, I know, already considering the options of what I could pull out of mothballs to use with these if the current system dies. I certainly wouldn't need much power.  EH?!??

And thanks for the Hickory, the Satin part I had, but couldn't figure out a wood that would begine with "H". Hickory never crossed my mind as an option.
