I couldn't possibly work in this shop.  It's too clean and organized.  I wouldn't know where to hunt for stuff.  It would be too easy to find.  I also don't see any sawdust or junk displayed so I wouldn't know where to lose stuff.  Simply unacceptable.

Re: Fastrac Lascala Midrange horns $325

    Hello again:

I just posted in the updates and modifications section re: Crites recaps and ALK trachorn for my 1975 Khorns. My concern (to my great surprise) is that these did not significantly change the sound of my KHs. Thus I wonder if it is worth the cost and bother to get wooden horns for my LSs. Is there source material that really brings out the diffs between metal and wooden horns? I would be happy to pursue this, if I can expect to hear a sign diff. I may still get ALK Uni xovers for the KHs, but they may not be available from Mr. Al K for another month or so. Can try those on the LSs too.

    Thx

Re: Fastrac Lascala Midrange horns $325

    Query:

    1. Are these the 2" throat horns that will carry a 2" driver?

    2. Can a box be made that would be suitable for use in sound reinforcement applications for

mid-sized venues with a moderately "quiet" R&B band ? Of course, they should be durable enough to

withstand not necessarily abuse but just the stress of being moved around a lot and set up and broken

down a couple of times a week? Should be durable and moderately weather-proof.

    3. Are the horns you are fabricating suitable for this application or should I look elsewhere?

    4. Do you have the time and inclination to build a box for a different horn if another type is more suited to the application?

I am thinking about using a couple of these type horns on either side of a stage setup on top of some kind of bass cabinet.

I am in the very early planning stages here, and will file for future reference.  Looking to do "boutique"

sound reinforcement with very accomplished pro musicians, don't necessarily want big and loud per se, just want the

highest quality at a listening level that won't damage folks hearing...a hi-fi small to medium venue experience.

Sorry if off-topic, and thanks for the help....Chuck

Nola, I am surprised that you didn't hear a big difference in the ALK trachorns. The first time I heard them I was amazed at the improved clarity and focus.

If you dont have the Horns mounted run then for a week, then swich back to your originals, I think youu will notice a big difference reversing the process.

I notice a change in all source material especially at low volumes, listen for the minor details, like the artist breathing, etc.   Keep in mind it is really easy to swich to an improved horn that betters focus, and clarity, and eliminates the unwanted ringing and coloration. I think after a week you will find it will be difficult to live with the originals.

I agree with your statement, if you are not hearings improvements from the KHorn upgrade, the is no reason to upgrade your Lascala's.

    Dave.

These are 1 inch horns that are very durable, I treat the horns with a paintable undercaoting to seal them from the environment. If the boxes you are interested in have proper supports, I dont see why these horns would not hold up well for decades, especially if they are not being abused non stop.

I would not mind building boxes and horns for your application, but currently greg928gts has a horn that fits your application nicely. Check out his VTracs as well, I think you will be impressed with his work.

    Thanks, Dave

That metalic sound or ringing or whatever I was hearing with the 511b is gone. Its sounds more "Nuetral?" The best words I can come up wih. Thanks, Rod

Good to know Rod, I am pleased you like the Fastrac. Will let you know asap when the JBL adapters are ready, they are currently 3 weeks overdue, the machinist gave me some feeble excuse about government contracts come first.

Geez, they need to get their priorities straight  ;)

Roddy, do your JBL's have their original diaphragms?

Well, my JBL 2470 came in and they have the original(ya!!) diaghrams in them. They check out 11.5 and 12 ohms and the serial numbers are only 3 numbers apart. The only problem I had was the screws had not been taken out in so long they were wanting to strip. So a machine shop drilled out the inset holes for  hex screws(allmost the same size) that wont ever strip the heads.

Here they are, what monsters compared to K-55-V.

I finally finished one of my crossovers and hooked up the 2470 (on the fastrac) with the eminence tweeter. The fastrac/ 2470 combo sounds fantastic. I have a pair of 2420's coming, so will do a comparison.

Re: Fastrac Lascala Midrange horns $325

Sounds like I may need to locate some 2470's. I have done some testing on the 2426 16ohm, and am amazed at its flat response. I also understand the Altec 902 is fantastic as well.

Blvdre, I am pleased your crossover parts showed up, and is workiing well for you. What networks are you building for your Scala's
