Do speaker cables age? What's happening to my Klipsch speakers?

I setup my home theater in 2004 and since then I have not made any changes to my setup or the room. When I first setup my home theater, I don't think I ever thought the sound was bright/harsh/edgy. Now, my speakers tend to sound bright and harsh at high volumes.

What could be causing this? Could it be the speaker cables that are now 5 years old and aging or have I just become more sensitive to high frequencies?

I doubt it's the cables, have you change rugs, carpet or furniture, or it just could be your taste in sound changing ?

Your probably just experiancing a loose connection.  Over time, banana plugs lose there tension and become loose in the binding post.

If your using the spade type, or bare wire, I'll bet there just loose and need a slight snugging.
