This Ortofon Kontrapunkt A Moving Coil cartridge was given the Soundsmith "Single Crystal" cantilever which holds a nude line contact diamond stylus. This work was completed in April of 2009 (receipt included in sale), and the cartridge has conservatively 20 hours on it since the re-tip. With the Soundsmith Ruby Cantilever and nude LC stylus, the cartridge is now much closer to a Kontrapunkt B, and it sounds exquisite. Liquid midrange and a smooth treble, with a commanding bottom end. Unfortunately budget priorities are moving me to make this cartridge available. Nothing really, just going back to a couple of Moving Magnet carts that I already have, and putting the money towards some needs on the home front.

Whell, do you suppose the Kontrapunt's capabilities would be wasted on my new/old dB Systems MC preamp?

I wish I could say for sure, but I'm not familiar with that preamp.  I can say that my system is certainly more modest that others. I've got a Rotel RC-1090 preamp - nice for my tastes, but far from esoteric - and I can certainly appreciate the Ortofon's capabilities on my set up.
