Heritage Home Theatre System Speakers Configuration

I need some inputs to rebuild my main 5.2 home theatre system.  These are the current speaker configurations I am considering:

Configuration 1:  Klipschorn Fronts, La Scala Center, La Scala Surrounds.

Configuration 2:  La Scala Fronts, La Scala Center, Cornwall Surrounds

Configuration 3:  La Scala Fronts, Heresy Center, Cornwall Surrounds

Configuration 4:  Cornwall Fronts, Heresy Center, Cornwall Surrounds

Which configuration will be the best?  If I use Configuration 1, I'd have to share the Klipschorns with my 2-Channel system.  The room size is 16' x 20'.

    2-Channel System:
    - AES AE-1 Pre w/AES PH-1 Phono
    - Welborne Labs Moondog SET Monoblocks
    - Linn Axis w/Basik Plus
    - Jolida JD-100A w/2nd-Level Mod
    - Klipschorns
    ------------------------------------------------------------

I'd vote config 2... but there is nothing wrong with config 1... nothing wrong with config 4 either.

I think if you actually had any one of those four... the rest of us would be drooling.

If your room does well with the khorns I would use them, plus it would eliminate another set of speakers in the room, if that matters ?

If you have completely different electronics for the Khorns just use a switch box between sets of electronics.

Or you could use the HTR pre-outs to run the Khorns with something different, or the HTR in 2 Ch ?

Not sure what you were planning

The only reason I don't use my 2 Ch speakers for ht is I can't fit what would match as a center and it would cost much more anyway being active crossovers, maby one day ?

I was leaning to #2 also until I read you had Khorns in the room already. The reason was because LaScalas are easier to get right in some rooms

Three identical front speakers is best (#2) but if the room is good for Khorns and they are in the 20-fot wall, that would put your first HT row at ten feet, which I find perfect.Drop an AT screen in front andf there you go!

Re: Heritage Home Theatre System Speakers Configuration

I was also thinking of doing #2 but I'll need to buy another La Scala for the center.  Right now I have an incomplete #2; I am currently using a Cornwall for the center channel.  PWK suggested that if your fronts (or mains) are fully horn-loaded, your center must also be fully horn-loaded.  What about surrounds?

    2-Channel System:
    - AES AE-1 Pre w/AES PH-1 Phono
    - Welborne Labs Moondog SET Monoblocks
    - Linn Axis w/Basik Plus
    - Jolida JD-100A w/2nd-Level Mod
    - Klipschorns

Re: Heritage Home Theatre System Speakers Configuration

I'd speculate that you could fudge a bit on the surrounds but, it would be nice icing on the cake if they also matched.

Reasoning:  Don't the surrounds tend to be used more for effects than primary output since the movie maker wants your eyeballs on the screen and not looking to the back of the cinema?

If you can swing the cost & floor space of matching them (Go IndyKlipschFan!!) I say go for it.  If you want to save somewhere I'd guess that would be one place to do it.

Edit:  I've set up my room in Tennessee with LaScalas as my rears.  Fortunatly for me, the stairwell is the back wall so I was able to reconfigure two locations and slide them INTO the wall, in the closet space under the stairs.  Not optimum but....  they are right in the walking path of the room and the wifey doesn't care for "big ugly teenager speakers" in her walking path.

Wife is in Knoxville with the dogs. The Jubilee's are with me in Jacksonville.

    What's wrong with this picture?

I use the Heresy II as surrounds and they are sweet.  I plan on using something like the KPT-250 as rear surrounds down the road for 7.1 instead of 6.1

Re: Heritage Home Theatre System Speakers Configuration

That settles it.  #2 will be it.  Three La Scalas and two Cornwalls.  Since this is a 5.2 configuration, I will be using two Epic Empires.  What would be the best placement?   In the front or in the back?  I didn't want to do #1 since I want to use the Klipschorns for my 2-Channel system.  So this works out great.
    2-Channel System:
    - AES AE-1 Pre w/AES PH-1 Phono
    - Welborne Labs Moondog SET Monoblocks
    - Linn Axis w/Basik Plus
    - Jolida JD-100A w/2nd-Level Mod
    - Klipschorns

Re: Heritage Home Theatre System Speakers Configuration

Don't blame you at all, if you don't mind the extra 2 speakers in the room, three LaScalas sound great. After hearing Indyklipschfan's Ht with music and movies it's been one of my top 2 choices if I could have any speakers I wanted  for HT.

I would put the subs in front if at all possible.

I have enough speakers to do #1, #3 and #4. I need to buy another La Scala to do and #2.

I also have a complete master bedroom 5.1 Home Theatre system which comprise of Heresy II fronts, Heresy II center and Heresy I surrounds with a Sub-10 and a 2-Channel system with a pair of Heresy IIIs.

Part of her problem may be that Coytee likes it 110 DB to start, he has been known to have it loud enough so he can hear it while using a chainsaw in the yard. Surprise

Or it could be she is not as big a fan of Marie Osmond as Coytee ? Indifferent

Sure, with false walls for the center KHorn, and an AT screen to hide it of course.
