    Display not working on DD5.1

Maybe someone can help me, as I have contacted the Canadian repair centre regarding this issue and they haven't replied to my emails.  The display quit working on my DD5.1... it's an issue with the LCD because the green backlight still works, just nothing on the screen.  This is very annoying as it was very expensive to buy and only a few years old.  Should I open it and attempt to find a faulty connection?  Is this a known issue with the DD5.1?  Can anyone help me?!?!

Re: Display not working on DD5.1

I would appreciate someone from Klipsch chiming in as well.

My brother purchased a ProMedia 5.1 system, complete with the DD-5.1, back in 2003. The following year, the display "went out" on the DD-5.1, and the entire unit was replaced by Klipsch.

Sometime between then and now, the display on the replacement unit has also gone "bad." Specifically, as soon as the power connection is made, all of the pixels on the right half of the display go dark. Once power is applied, the backlight comes on, but the pixels remain lit (and generally fade out), and nothing else is displayed, such as text, etc.

I disassembled the unit, reseating connections and such, but, at best, this only resulted in intermittent display operation. During these times, entire columns of pixels would remain unactivated, resulting in "streaking" through the text.

I suspect that something is causing the displays to fail, as operations with the remote show that the unit is still processing commands correctly, despite the lack of LCD feedback.

I've recently purchased a fully-functioning DD-5.1 for myself ($50, eBay Buy-It-Now), and would be interested to know if this issue can be prevented (and what the fix is, for my brother's unit).

    Best regards,

    Eric

The exact same thing happened to my DD-5.1.  I called Klipsch today, and the particular customer service rep I spoke to seemed like he must have been new to the job, as he was unfamiliar with the DD-5.1.  He said nothing could be done in terms of repair or replacement, but I think I should call back when I have time and speak to someone different.  I do not want to post his name on a public forum, but I really would like to speak to a different representative because he didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about.

That is exactly what happened with my DD-5.1.

the dd5.1 was not really a klipsch unit as it was a different company with a rebadged name. I think that company went under hence the not much help and support. LCD can go bad and the green backlight is different from the actual lcd. You might be able to open it up and replace the lcd with a similar one, they are pretty standardized

It's not just the  LCD.  The unit is not mapping properly (the 6 separate audio channels are not being sent to the correct speakers).

Re: Display not working on DD5.1

When my DD5.1 was about a year old, the LCD panel began displaying mumbo-jumbo instead of the correct characters.  Sometimes I could disconnect the power for a while, and when I powered back on, the display would operate correctly.  About a year later, I now get a blank LCD.  All functionality of the unit works properly, including the LEDs, so I continue to use it on a regular basis.  However, it makes it impossible to adjust time delays, etc.

Until I read this thread, I assumed that my problem was uncommon.  If someone can identify a suitable replacement panel, please do tell.

Unfortunately, Jay is correct.  This product has been discontinued for a few years, warranties have long expired, and we are unable to receive support for it as well (the original vendor is no longer in business).  Many of our support reps have been hired recently and are completely unfamiliar with it.

If you want to email me a detailed description of what is wrong, I will be happy to forward it to an engineer who can perhaps offer suggestions.

I'm sorry to hear of the trouble.

    Thanks!

I have a DD-5.1, but the RCU was lost in a recent move. If in your travels as an Admin, you happen to see an individual who desires an operational DD-5.1, sans remote-I'm the guy.

I could really use an operational DD-5.1 to go with my operational remote Big Smile
