I went out and looked at Bill's KHorns today. Bill is a heck of a nice guy and was happy to show me not only the KHorns, but a pretty cool Heathkit Mega Amp he had used to drive them at some point. He and his wife Jan showed me some pics of their previous house and its entertainment center, and the reason the speakers are white. His setup was like one of those ones you'd see in a magazine about how a surround sound home entertainment system should look - nice setup Bill...
Anyway, the horns were not hooked up to any system so I only got to do one of those head-bob lookie-loos. They are sequentially numbered and indeed "white-white". After my retinas returned from a way hot white balance overload (lol...sorry Bill) I got a good look at them. One speaker's top section was unbolted and out where I could see inside. crossovers were original AAs but he said he did have a capacitor or something replaced on one of them and replaced both tweeters. The side panels were missing, but he later showed me where he had them in a storage room. I didn't get to check the condition of teh cloth on these, but there were four, complete but will need to be put back together.
The speakers themselves were in good-very good shape. I did not notice any gashes, gouges, nicks, or chips. The grill cloths were tight and in good shape. There was some of the white paint oversprayed in several areas, but I suppose one would have that stripped or covered anyway. I made him an offer more in line with Gary's guess and left it at that. Bill isn't hurting to sell and may pursue other options.
If you have to have white for your media experience, these and a pair of reworked crossovers may be the ticket. For me, I suppose I'll have to keep looking.
