Replace ProMedia 5.1 THX Sub Amp Panel with New Home Theater Sub Amp Panel?

Has anyone had any experience with replacing the sub amp panel that comes with the ProMedia 5.1 THX with a new Sub Amp panel such as the type from PartsExpress.com? If so where did you order yours? I am considering www.partsexpress.com the link is http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=300-804 The price is $129.88 plus shipping.

Just like everyone else I am upset that my ProMedia sub amp died. I get a muffled sound from the sub but nothing from the satellites. This is a way to find a new use from my sub. I will use the satellites with an older Yamaha RX-V480 pro logic surround receiver in the bedroom and that is where I will use the sub as well.

I screwed off the back panel to see that I have perfectly fine two 8" sub speakers in a nice ported box designed by Klipsch. Instead of the $90 to send the ProMedia sub amp panel back for repair I may decide to order a "build your own sub" sub amp panel and convert my original computer hook-up sub to a Home Theater hook-up sub.

The new sub amp panel will replace the panel that came with the sub. The new one will have a gain control, cut HZ control, high level and low level inputs and outputs for my right and left front speakers, auto-on feature, etc., just like a conventional home theater subwoofer.

I am considering a 240 watt amp sub panel. I understand from Klipsch that the two 8' sub woofers are 8 ohm each and they are now wired in series. I will need to re-wire them in parallel which I understand will then be seen as a 4ohm load and the full 240 watts from the new sub amp.

If you know of any other web sites to order a new panel or have any other suggestions please respond. Thanks

Re: You may please refer my observations at http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/94762.aspx . These observations are even applicable to Promedia 5.1 Ultra , if it is used as passive subwoofer.

original sub amp that came with the ProMedia and the volume tower available for anyone who needs this Re: Replace ProMedia 5.1 THX Sub Amp Panel with New Home Theater Sub Amp Panel?

I waited to purchase the new sub amp panel from Parts Express until it went on sale. I purchased the 240 watt sub amp panel for $99.00 plus $10.00 shipping. I had to make some modifications to the back opening to fit the new panel and all went well. I now have a new home theater sub. Now I have my main home theater system - Klipsch Reference and Denon, my bedroom system - Boston Acoustics and Denon and my basement system - Yamaha and my resurrected ProMedia satellites and my new modified sub. All works great. Now I have the original sub amp that came with the ProMedia and the volume tower available for anyone who needs this. I will be willing to work out any reasonable arrangement and ship it to whomever needs it.

     Please respond with requests.
