Xbox 360 and Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 setup possible?

    Hello all,

I have been searching for a solution to use my Xbox 360's digital audio optical cable with my Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speakers.  I have searched online for both the Klipsch DD-5.1 and the Creative DDTS 1000 with no luck, I am aware that they are discontiuned.  I also tried my local Best Buy to see if they had a receiver that would accept the inputs from my speakers, no luck there too.  My last option was to try the Creative Home Theater Connect DTS-610.

After talking to a creative representative on the phone they said that this product would also not work with my Xbox 360.  I have also e-mailed Klipsch and received the same response. Do they make soundcards for PC's that would be able to perform this function?  Any help for a solution would be appreciated, no matter what the price range would be.

    Thanks.

Any one of those Sound Blaster Platinums would work.

They have optical inputs on them.  Just run the optical out from the 360 to the optical in on the Platinum X-Fi- I/O drive.  Plug your speakers into the respectable L/R, SL/SR, and Center/Sub in the back of the X-Fi soundcard.  Thats one option.

Depending on how much you want to spend, you could always look on Ebay for A DD-5.1 or a DDTS 1000.  I saw a DD-5.1 on there buy it now for like $360.

Good luck with the search.  Within the next year or so, after I graduate I am going to upgrade my Promedia THX's and 5.1 DD to a reference series.  Ill be sure to post on here when I am ready to sell it.

Sorry to threadjack, but it's on topic.  ^_^

Eric - I've been looking at that kind of setup myself, have a Promedia Ultra 5.1 set I don't want to part with and just bought an xbox. The question I have is, does the xbox output the audio signal in the optical line-out already decoded? If not, would you have to run a program on the computer to decode the dolby digital or DTS?

     Thanks!

If you go into console settings on the xbox360, click on the audio and you have 3 options.  Dolby Surround, Dolby Digital 5.1, and Dolby Digital 5.1 w/WMA  Pro.  I have mine set to Dolby Digital 5.1 and it sounds perfect for me.  I haven't tried using DTS through my Xbox, but I assume that it will decode that as well.  I have my xbox connected to my DD 5.1  and its perfect.
