    Onkyo 705 vs. Onkyo 606?

    Wait for the 606 or get the 705?

    what do you guys think. will there be a 706?

     the 606 is too similar to the 605 imo...the 705 will not be a significant upgrade from what you have.  If you need more HDMI inputs than I would wait and see what comes next from onkyo.  if you need it now I would say go with the 606 because it has the most HDMI inputs.

    its not really the HDMI inputs that concern me.  My dad is needing a receiver, and I was going to give him mine and get a new one.  thats all.  I can get the 705 for $523 shipped and the 606 for $429 shipped

     gotcha...that being the case I would go 705 for the extra power and the attractive price.

    Also, the 705 has pre-outs, which may be useful if you ever intend on adding external amps down the road. The 706 should be out with the next month, but with the exception of maybe the video processing won't be that much better than the 705.

     I would get the 705 just because it has the pre outs.  But like lakedmb said, the 706 is coming so maybe wait and see what that has to offer.

    scratch that, Im now looking at something that would benefit me more: The onkyo 805.  40 more watts a channel and more bells and whistles.

    Hold off until all of the -06 models are released. Doing so will benefit you more since the -05 prices will drop.

    I have had the 805 for just over a year, & love it.

    But as lakedmb said, waiting for the current model might be worth the wait. But it is still worth checking out thoroughly.  I had to force them to swap from the 804 because it was a POS.

    you know whats funny.  I got my father talked into getting Klipsch RB35,RC35,and a RPW10.  Onkyo 605 also.

    after all this talk about upgrading receivers.  I sat down last night and watched AVP, WOW.  the dts track on there is nice.  I think i have a great receiver, so I might stick with this one right now.  I really wanted the 805 though.Embarrassed
