My Jolida was stock and had old Amperex Bugle boys in it when the AH mopped up. I had just bought it brand new and spent about $800 on it. I did not feel very good after that test. We played identical CDs simultaneously and just used the input selector on the preamp to A/B. There was a huge difference.

I still have my Jolida and use it regularly. I think I improved it marginally with new tubes but I wouldn't spend anymore on it. Not even $300. I would check out some other models first or a Benchmark DAC. That is just me though. The chips and software have gotten better in just a year or two. I'd like to get away from CDs eventually.

Colter, I think you are going to be a very happy camper...indeed.

I own the same AH! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 CD player that you just purchased.

This unit weighs so little that it will make you think that it can not live up to its hype. You are about to learn that the weight of a CD player is not the primary criteria that should be used to evaluate the quality of the unit. It lives up to its reputation right out of the box. The upgrades just enhance an already fine player.

For every LP that I buy...I try to purchase the CD, too.

While to my ears, the music sounds better on the original LP, it is hard to beat the convenience of being able to sit back with a remote control and listen to the CD. With the remote control you can skip the tracks that you don't like, rearrange the order of the playback, and repeat your favorite tracks as often as you like without having to jump up after every track. But you undoubtably already know that is a major factor in deciding to listen to CD's. I am just suggesting that when you listen to the same tunes on an LP versus a CD, the sound is one thing, and the convenience of one over the other is another thing to consider.

Maybe someday when I get rich, I can hire a servant to operate my turntable for me. Until then I rely upon the convenience of a CD player with a remote control.

That convenience is worth its weight in gold when you just want to listen to your favorite tunes.

I usually have the CD remote in one hand... and my preamp remote in the other hand. And my beer hat with the dual straw system on my head. Ha ha.
