Buzzing and heat on my Promedia 4.1 system

    Hello,

I've had my Promedia 4.1 system for about 6 years now and love it, although I am now seeing the following issue occur. First, when I plug-in the system into a my power outlet, I hear some charging up noise (transformer caps charging up?). Then, after leaving the system on for a few minutes, the left channel (regardless of front or rear), develops some fairly noticeable white noise. I've noticed this issue regardless of whether or not an audio source is attached to the phono jacks or not. Additionally, when I feel the back of the system in the area slightly below the "BASH" logo, it seems to get fairly warm, and if left on long enough, it'll be hot to the touch. When the preamp Input is unplugged from the sub-panel (while the sub is still plugged into the mains outlet), the buzz disappears.

I haven't opened up my unit yet, but is there any way to determine if this is an issue with the pre-amp vs. whatever amp/transformer circuitry there is in the sub? I have fairly easy access to oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc. to try to diagnose the problem, so any guidance to what to check for would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I am using the US version of the promedia 4.1's

    Thanks,

    wannabephile
