Repairing Amp and Volume Control Tower

After my volume control tower died and my amp followed suit, I browsed the forum to try to figure out what to do. Judging from the less than stellar reviews of those who did get their amps replaced and had it die again, I decided it was not the best way for me to waste $90 bucks more on my ProMedia 5.1 Searching around all over the interwebs, I found an electrical technician on ebay (of all places) with stellar reviews. He fixes the amps for all the ProMedia models and uses high quality parts to prevent overheating and has properly identified why some amps seem to blow up. I say properly identified, because he tells you straight up why some amps die and is confident enough to offer a 60 day warranty on it. Anyways, I sent him my amp and my volume control pod to fix for $100 total ($80 for the amp, $10 for pod, $10 for shipping) and got it back in four days (I live one city away from him so UPS ground was actually next day :D). Anyways, to make a long story short, not only did he fix my amp, he replaced my pod's faulty DIN cable with a longer one and now everything works like its brand new. If you are interested in contacting him for repairs, here is his page on Ebay.

PS Amy..if this is against the rules just give me a PM and delete this thread. I just think this is helpful for the people who miss their blown speaker systems. :D

Re: Repairing Amp and Volume Control Tower

Anyone reading this thread please read on for my experience. I chose to go the route of sending my amp back to Klipsch for repair. Oh how I regret that now as it has been over five weeks since they have received it and I still do not have it back. Three weeks ago I was told "it's almost done". Two weeks ago I was told "it's done", and "it usually takes three to four weeks", and "I cannot tell you when it will be shipped".  I will add that my calls have all been dealt with in the most professional of manner, but overall the time it is taking for what I have read in the forums as a fairly straightforward repair, is making me lose faith in Klipsch. So... do yourself a favor if you need your amp repaired. Follow the lead of amoeba1126 and send your amp to Elliot (or others on the board who have the know how to fix whats wrong with your equipment). Unless of course you don't mind computing in silence for 2 months.

Please note: This is just my personal experience getting my amp repaired. It in no way means I am bashing Klipsch at all. It's simply the facts as they have happened (I have left out wasting a week or more on a mis-diagnosed "bad" controller). And another note, my amp didn't die from any heat related issue either. Prior to the lightning surge that came up my cable line (which caused me the problem) I had no idea these amps had any issues at all. I had been nothing short of totally pleased for years with my system.

Remember though that if fixed by someone else, Klipsch warantee is gone and has no liability if it malfunctions or sets on fire..... I had a nice talk with Andy W (Klipsch head Promedia Engineer) about the various systems when I went to the Pilgrimage on saturday
