I had a JVC that used jumpers between the pre and amp. They consisted of only the center pins, with no shield. The shield/ground was already tied together. Never any interference or noise problems with them either. Bruce

Oops! I just sent you a link to the pair in Atlanta, but hadn't read to the bottom of this thread. Bruce
Mark, I was just jerking your chain - you should know better by now. :) I was serious about him dumping the CIII's though. We got to A/B the thing against the RF-7 when it first came out (in Indy), and I just thought it sounded dead and bloated.
I can't remember who it was whodid the demo for the Cornwalls at Indy, but they thought someone had messed with the eq in the room. I thought my HIIs sounded better. For me, it you are going to have something
Is preamp tube matching necessary if so what kind, tubedepot offers a couple of different matching.
MOst tube matching is done with the power tubes, that are going to be in a PP configuration and left/right channels. These would be amps where you can't bias them individually. They will be different in preamps, and really change the sound. The best sound I've had in my Merlin was with an old 6DJ8, can't remember the brand. But it went noisy on

The originals have ports. SOme think ports don't work as well as passives, but i also think it goes back and forth on the idea. The real improvement with the Chorus II is that the mid horn is a tractrix, which sounds better than the exponential used on the original. Bruce
I will look up some pics of the porting I tried; with them in place I experienced too much bass and found the bass a bit "slower" .... maybe because of the room, don't know exactly but after closing the back again I immediately heard what I liked more again.
Do you just have the backs enclosed and not ported? I believe Dennis originally made the port length 10 inches, but everyone seemed to settle on 7 inches and a bit tighter and faster.

Safari 6.0.4 on the Mac (newer iMac, i7 cpu, OSX, Lion). Everything works but the youtube/video links. These are in our art department, and don't have the Mac version of Firefox on them, so I can't check that. I haven't tried Safari on Windows... Bruce

If you look at the inside of the cab on this pic, you will see there are no strips to put screws into.btw, these are pics taken of the CW IIIs under construction that DTEL and Christie won at theHope pilgrimage.
I see the braces above the woofer, but it appears that there is no lower shelf below the woofer. I thought that lower shelf had a lot to do with the particular tuned alignment of the Cornwall cabinet?
Mike
It would seem that's where my goals diverge from perhaps the majority of the forum. I'm not here to see how much gear I can personally sift through in my lifetime. I'll only get one or two opportunities to seriously plunk down for this hobby. Like a large scale engineering project, I'm compelled to make things absolutely count. Adhering to Deming's PDCA methodology, it has taken but only a few minor iterations to achieve those goals. [/quote

I knew you would pose the question... Been too busy, but I'll get it done. Finally got something that sounds pretty close when played back on headphones or my desktop pc system. The pc system is using an Onkyo receiver and JBL Control 25 speakers. Bruce edit: I guess I already said that... Well, the wife is back after a month home to the Philippines, so... one of these days.
