• Re: CDs, when will they be obsolete?

Good Music IS getting hard to find. Both well played and well recorded. On my system, 24/192 DVD Audio sounds as good as vinyl, but has much greater, more natural dynamic range. It's really had to find, though. My turntable is a Thorens TD-125 with a Decca London tone arn, an AT OC9 MC cartridge all run through an Aragon 47k phono preamp. The rest you can see in my sig.

  • Re: Strobe light on turntable

Coytee, You should have anough adjustment range to make the image drift one direction and as you move the adjustment it should stop and finally begin to drift the other. Stopped should be near the center of the range. If the image is moving in the direction the platter turns the platter is rotating too fast. My Thorens has an ajustment range of just a few per cent in either direction. The strobe and speed is based on the AC line frequency. If Bull Run or the power company is having a bad day, you

  • Re: Which horn is better-cast or composite?
Interesting! It also appears that some metals do and some do not (or at least to the point where it's an audible effect). The ringing is of course the result of the alloy and the casting. I only had one pair of 400's that exhibited the ringing. Interestingly, they were a later casting (1986) and were not as thick as the early ones. I fooled around with mounting, and also use a rubber gasket on the mounting flange as a precaution. I also experimented
PWK studied the resonance phenom and reported that a properly installed metal horn does NOT do it. Bob Crites pointed to the writeup here some time ago.
I have a pair of K-400s and I very much disagree. When the mouth of the K-400 is NOT mounted to a motorboard, it rings like a church bell. Mounted, it still rings, but not much. Almost as much Marketer as Engineer, Mr. Paul was defending his design and the engineering compormises he made. I cannot detect

  • Re: Question About Heresy "E"

It looks like a normal Heresy I from the front. It should have a K-22-? woofer, K-55-V squawker and a K-77 tweeter. I don't think 1978 had K-77-M tweeters. The crossover network should be a Type E. Have a look.

  • Re: CD's are so yesterday!
Fast going the way of DVD I just removed my cdp from my system. Just plug in my iPhone for most stuff. I can't hear the difference, so it works for me.
I can sometimes hear the distortion and muddled soundstage of 320k MP3s through my helmet speakers while wearing earplugs and riding my motorcycle. I can't stand them through my audio system. It's hard to imagine anything from an iPhone sounding tolerable.

  • Re: OT: CAT 5 prewire

Go for CAT-6 or higher (CAT 6a or CAT-7) if it is available. Ever faster networks are coming and you don't want to have to repeat the wiring job. Buy the teflon insulated "plenum" cable. Home Depot has some neat, modular plugs and covers suitable for easy DIY on the terminations.

  • Re: Sooo, you're up to 100 mph -- would you stop the engine, or shift into neutral?
It's probably in the cruise control, so why would you automatically think the rev limiter would not work, it is a seperate circuit, but again, I was thinking in terms of mechanical orriginally. Last I knew, BDS electronic hats were still full of bugs and nobody was making an electronic settup capable of 1,400 horsepower or electronic injectors capable of the fuel flow requirenments. 1,000 horsepower yes, but not alot over that, and these are still in
Some Toyota and Lexus owners have suddenly found their vehicles in runaway acceleration to near-maximum speeds, and there've been a number of fatalities and serious injuries. See last night's ABC News report, and be sure to run the video report: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/RunawayToyotas/sudden-acceleration-toyota-cars-owners-rebel-accidents/story?id=8980479 .
