• Re: OT: crocodile has a really bad day.
It seemed like every pond, little or big, was bobbing with hippos.
Sort of like gators in Florida?

  • Re: This story sounds fishy
My neighbor has had 3 cell phone wrecks.
Slow learner, is he? Just like a drunk driver, if he can't give up his favourite habit, he should give up driving before he kills someone. Has he never been reported? Even if there's no 'cellphone while driving' ban in your jurisdiction, 'driving without due care and attention' or even criminal negligence could be applicable in those crashes.

I briefly tried to use this as an avatar, but it wasn't accepted...

  • Re: Which horn is better-cast or composite?
Plastic seems like a natural material for horns since it is not very stiff and some of it is still a (stiff) fluid at room temperature, so it has good internal damping.
As well, those plastic horns are very heavily ribbed to increase their stiffness.

  • Re: Strobe light on turntable

If it's a Technics direct drive, you just hit the "0" button and the appropriate row of dots stops moving. They'll remain immobile until you change the speed from 33 to 45 or vice versa. Not meaning to sound smug.

  • Re: 510/K69 Belle Project Finished

That looks very effective, and the colour goes well with the colour of the wall. As Coytee mentioned, it likely is the first Belle/510 combo. What's keeping the 510 from falling on its face? I'm using 510s on my La Scalas (making them 510 JubScalas) and I'm using custom-made Plexiglas stands to support them, as you can see in my avatar. That's the Right speaker.

  • Re: Internal speaker wiring
Any thoughts on tinned wire versus regular copper strand?
According to Knukonceptz's website, the tin coating keeps the current running within the individual strands, rather than jumping between strands, so it takes a more direct path, but the more likely advantage is much-improved corrosion resistance. The twisted pair geometry has a theoretical noise-rejection advantage over regular wire. Whether it would be audible or not is debatable, but why not

  • Re: My tuner is louder than other components

All my inputs need different volume levels, the Phono input highest of all, so I just learned to turn the volume way down before switching inputs. There are some receivers that let you set all your input levels to match, but I don't have one of those.

  • Re: Nick Cage in financial trouble

Bringing Out the Dead was good, too, with Nick playing an ambulance driver/paramedic.

  • Re: Stands for La Scalas

I once tried tilting mine back with 2-inch-tall blocks under the front and it made them sound harsh, so I took them out after a day or two.
