• Re: I going to get an Almarro integrated.

I have a 1-watt EL84 based amp and a 6-watt 807 based amp. Both are single ended like the Almarro. I also have a 150-watt 1979 Yamaha R-2000 receiver which was the top o line back in the day. I also had a 100-watt EL34 integrated for a short time when I first got my KHorns earlier this year. I have my KHorns in a small carpeted room similar to yours. The thought of the Almarro isn't crazy, but for the type of music you say you listen to it may or may not be the best. Many people on this forum

  • Re: Jolida customer service

I've had several Jolida products over the years. I had an issue with one and it was promptly fixed thru my dealer. I've had other questions and have called and spoken to the crew, including Mike Allen the owner. Great folks. This to me is what sets Jolida apart for some of the other entry level tube gear makers out there. American company that I feel I can call and resolve any issues I may have.

  • Re: A Tube Question

Frank - I don't have a lot of experience, but I'll comment on what I can. At one point I had a Jolida JD1000 amp that used 12AT7s 12AX7s input and splitter, and EL34 power tubes. I swapped all the stock tubes and did get a lot of improvement. I got a bigger improvement rolling the small tubes than when I rolled the EL34s, but I bought more expensive NOS tubes for the small tubes and only decent Svetlanas for the power tubes. It used 8 EL34s, so to go NOS with those it could have cost more
I recently picked this one up and was glad I did......... Now, what were we talkin' about? Dennie
I saw the Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood "Live from Madison Square Garden" CD in the store yesterday but didn't buy it (I bought Ben Harper's new CD instead). Anyone have the Clapton / Winwood disc? If so is it any good?

I've been doing this hi-fi stuff for a while (as many here have) so I've been to my fair share of forums. Some are pretty obnoxious, and some are great to read and post and share ideas. This forum is definately in the latter category, although I've only been a member since May of this year. Lots of good people and good info. I'll say one thing - If we all had the passion for our systems that gp-phan has shown so far the world might have more music! Maybe it will rub off a little

Dude - You posted a week ago asking what people thought. You posted again saying you didn't get responses, so what do we think. I gave you my opinion, and I did not write anything that should have upset you. Next time write, "So what do you think, please respond only if you agree with me."
If you are wondering what kind of Amp & Preamp to run with Klipsch Speakers you owe it to yourself to check these pieces out, they are Mind Boggling to say the least. Ok, what do you think???
I think you found something you really like. But, I don't think you've stumbled onto a uniquely magical combination. Easy for me to say having never heard what you're hearing, but you've never heard what I hear with my KHorns and single ended tube

  • Re: Tone Control

I can relate to your situation, at least the part about the simple configuration and pure signal. I have a single ended amp with volume control driving my KHorns. I also have a very nice vintage Yamaha receiver (Model R-2000) in my living room (available for background music, so at least it's not collecting dust). I've tried the Yamaha's pream section driving the tube amp, and I gain a lot of control over the sound but I lose a lot of detail and magic. You might try rolling the preamp

  • Re: Wiring question....

You've gotten good advice so far. First remember that there really is no + or - speaker lead, you just want to make sure you connect the speakers the same way. Almost all wire will be different in some way. If not by color then one will have ribs that you can feel with your finger if you rub your finger accross the wire, not down the length. One wire nice and smoothe, one wire bumpy. If this is the case then just connect all + to ribbed and all - to smoothe (or visa versa). If no smoothe/bumpy
