  • Cornscala woofer & x-over question

I'd like build a Cornscala with APT150 supertweeter and Atlas PD5 VH mid driver on the Altec 511b midhorn for my home built SE 2a3 monoblocks (I don't like loud music...:), enough about 100 dB/1W speaker ). The problem is the woofer. I find this speaker: Eminence Kappa-15LFA. 8 ohm. Parameters...

  • Fixed 5.1 Ultra - Sub Cut In and Out (Leaky Capacitors)

I've had my ultras for over 4 years when all of a sudden the sub would begin cutting in and out with some popping (sats were fine); the problem was definitely worse on hot days. Then I remembered back in 2002 I had a computer video card with similar behavior, i.e. it would work fine in 3D mode for...

  • Classic ground loop hum on Promedia 5.1 with or without source.

Hi Folks! I get a quiet 60hz hum on subwoofer, front, center, and probably rear. I get it with and without the inputs plugged in. Yes, I've tried other outlets, same hum. I tried unplugging speakers. It's pretty much always there, same loudness regardless of the volume setting. Is it likely something...

  • DIY Heresy Stands

So I need some stands to push up my Heresy's to more ear level while I sit at my desk and when I'm walking around my apartment. Right now they sit on the floor at the sides of my desk. I know they aren't made to be near field monitors but.... It's what I got haha. Can't see them too...

  • Re: does anyone here build heresy based center channels?

Rebuilding the Heresy II as a center channel w/2 8" woofers and maybe a well calculated duct port is brilliant. I tried laying an HII sideways on top of my tv, the HI is unshielded and vibtates the hell out of the tv. Shielding the drivers and increasing the length of the cab wi/some other mods...

  • Re: Chorus II - crossover, diaphragms, passive subs and more

STL: mikieboyblue, So are you still running those Chorus' without backs? Sadly yes (house remodeling get in the way). I hope to get around to making the backs, rewiring, and installing Bob C.'s crossovers soon! I will report back when I have it done. Thanks for asking.

  • Heresy to Cornwall Conversion?

I currently have a 4 ohm set of Heresy II speakers. Since the midranges, tweeters, and crossovers are virtually identical to the Cornwalls, how feasible is it to cannibalize the Heresys, have some Cornwall cabinets made, and replace the 12" woofers with 4-ohm 15" ones? Even if it is technically...

  • possible free LaScala cabs - Great Falls, Virginia, area

Same deal as last time (s). Looking at some LaScala's for the drivers and xovers for a surround in-wall project. The cabs are original klipsch LaScala cabs. Not beaters, but not piano black glossy either. If you are local to Great Falls, Virginia, and want the cabs, send me a PM or email. I just want...

  • 5.1 Channel Swithcing Device?

I am in need of a solution. I have a DVD-A player and a seperate SACD player. I know it might be easier to just purchase a universal player - however I am curious if there is an economical solution available to switch between 2 5.1 channel inputs. (My receiver only supports one discrete 5.1 input). I...

  • ProMedia 2.1 fried resistor (I think)

We have had this speaker system in my class for like 4 years now and we finally hooked them up. The volume control knobs work backwards and the satellite speakers play but with low volume (though the knobs are turned completely to "Min"). The subwoofer does not work at all and only a small...
